2 Kia orana Welcome to the ' first ever Clean and Green Industry Showcase. This Showcase is being held to coincide with the 43rd Pacific Islands Forum, and highlights the importance of maintaining our pristine Pacific environment, while at the same time building sustainable businesses and providing for economic development. The Pacific has so much which is special and unique. We have vast clean oceans, beautiful beaches and landscapes, crystal clear lagoons, tropical wildlife and natural wonders. These we need to preserve for ourselves, for our children, and for the world. At the same time, we need to develop our industries to ensure that we have viable economies which will provide for our people. Therefore it is fitting that this Showcase should highlight what is being done, and what can be done, that is "Clean and Green". At this Showcase we will see examples of industries large and small, which are doing their part to develop business while also caring for the environment. There are natural and healthy products being produced in numerous islands states. New clean energy sources are being developed and installed. Energy-efficient equipment and appliances reduce our energy needs. Environmentally-friendly tourism is highlighted. Regional organisations are providing assistance to achieve our 'Clean and Green' aspirations. Financial institutions are playing their part, reducing their carbon footprint and providing funding for others to do the same. Neighbouring countries are here to show their support, commitment and assistance for our development. We welcome all of the exhibitors who have travelled so far to join us at this Showcase, and to demonstrate their commitment to our environment. We welcome the Leaders and international visitors, who will be able to see examples of what is being done to protect, promote and advance responsible industries in the Pacific. And we welcome everyone who visits this Showcase, and hope they find contacts, ideas, opportunities and inspiration for Clean and Green Industries in the Pacific. Kia Manuia Hon.
