1 ProGarda Natural chlorine, chlorate, QAC and sythetic free process washing aids for the food industry COMPLIES WITH MRL REGULATIONS

2 CHLORINE, CHLORATES AND QAC s THE PROBLEM Chlorates used in plant protection products are covered under Regulation EU 396/2005. Since the substance is no longer authorised and, thus far, no specific 'MRL' for chlorate residues in food has been established, the MRL of 0.01 mg/kg provided in regulations valid for all such cases in the EU, is applicable. Therefore, produce whose chlorate content has been verified as exceeding this generally applicable MRL may not be marketed or traded with. The source of the chlorate residues detected in produce is not yet known. In general, various points of entry are conceivable: residues from the use of chlorinated washing water, the use of chlorine dioxide to disinfect washing water environment, e.g. atmospheric deposits, contaminated sprinklers or irrigation water, etc. unauthorized application of chlorate as an herbicide absorption of chlorate via plants from soil contaminated either from the environment or due to an earlier application of chlorate as an herbicide or from contaminated fertilizer. THE SOLUTION Phyto products incorporate a natural and truly holistic approach designed to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of cleaning and sanitising operations. Over recent years we have focused specifically on the impending MRL Regulations, to create a QAC, Chlorate and Chlorine free range of hygiene chemicals to offer to the food industry. The range includes in some cases organic approved systems using safe and environmentally friendly formulations. All products are non-toxic and wherever possible manufactured from renewable resources. The ProGarda range is based on unique formulations incorporating botanical extracts, highly efficient natural and natural fruit acids, combined in some cases with specifically selected natural surfactants. All products are effective against bacteria, yeasts, moulds, fungi, spores and viruses. All testing is carried out to BSEN Standards at independent UKAS accredited laboratories.

The kill rates are determined from the test dilution. Pass criteria log 5 reduction. BS EN 1275 Test Procedure The product undergoes an efficacy screen based on the European Suspension Test after fifteen minutes contact time in dirty conditions at 25 degrees C. The kill rates are determined from the test dilution. Pass criteria log 4 reduction BACTERIA Organism % Kill Rate MRSA NCIMB > E. coli 0157 > P. aeruginosa > S. aureus > Salmonella typhi murium > Listeria monocytogenes > FUNGI Organism % Kill Rate Candida albicans > Aspergillus niger > FURTHER DETAILED INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST

6 The biofilm effect The growth of biofilms on foods and food preparation surfaces is a potential health risk. Attached micro-organisms are more resistant to conventional treatments than mobile material. By way of example both benzalkonium chloride and chlorine destroys free Listeria cells in 30 seconds but attached colonies (biofilm) survive 20 minutes and the residues are regarded as toxic. ProGarda products are powerful enough to remove the biofilm, kill the contained bacteria and provide a residual effect to prevent further infection. Build up of attached bacteria can develop substantial resistance to cleaning and sanitisation if allowed to develop over many hours. Cleaning programmes MUST take the build up of biofilms into account when cleaning schedules are being determined, particularly over weekends.
