5 CASE NARRATIVE Laboratory number: Client: Baseline Environmental Project: Y Location: Lion Creek Crossing Park Request Date: 11/17/11 Samples Received: 11/17/11 This data package contains sample and QC results for one four-point soil composite, requested for the above referenced project on 11/17/11. The samples were received cold and intact. TPH-Purgeables and/or BTXE by GC (EPA 8015B): No analytical problems were encountered. TPH-Extractables by GC (EPA 8015B): No analytical problems were encountered. Volatile Organics by GC/MS (EPA 8260B): Cal Science in Garden Grove, CA performed the analysis (NELAP certified). Please see the Cal Science case narrative. Semivolatile Organics by GC/MS (EPA 8270C): No analytical problems were encountered. Pesticides (EPA 8081A): All samples underwent sulfur cleanup using the copper option in EPA Method 3660B. All samples underwent florisil cleanup using EPA Method 3620C. No analytical problems were encountered. PCBs (EPA 8082): All samples underwent sulfuric acid cleanup using EPA Method 3665A. All samples underwent sulfur cleanup using the copper option in EPA Method 3660B. No analytical problems were encountered. Metals (EPA 6010B and EPA 7471A) Soil: High recoveries were observed for chromium, nickel, and lead in the MS/MSD for batch ; the parent sample was not a project sample, the BS/BSD were within limits, and the associated RPDs were within limits. No other analytical problems were encountered. Metals (EPA 6010B) WET Leachate: No analytical problems were encountered. Hexavalent Chromium (EPA 7196A): No analytical problems were encountered. Hexavalent Chromium (EPA 3060/7196): Low recovery was observed for hexavalent chromium in the matrix spike of SS-1 Page 1 of of 50

Greater than the indicated value. Surrogate compound recovery was out of control due to a required sample dilution. Therefore, the sample data was reported without further clarification. Surrogate compound recovery was out of control due to matrix interference. The associated method blank surrogate spike compound was in control and, therefore, the sample data was reported without further clarification. Recovery of the Matrix Spike (MS) or Matrix Spike Duplicate (MSD) compound was out of control due to matrix interference. The associated LCS and/or LCSD was in control and, therefore, the sample data was reported without further clarification. The MS/MSD RPD was out of control due to matrix interference. The LCS/LCSD RPD was in control and, therefore, the sample data was reported without further clarification. The PDS/PDSD or PES/PESD associated with this batch of samples was out of control due to a matrix interference effect. The associated batch LCS/LCSD was in control and, hence, the associated sample data was reported without further clarification. Surrogate recovery below the acceptance limit. Surrogate recovery above the acceptance limit. Analyte was present in the associated method blank. Sample analyzed after holding time expired. Concentration exceeds the calibration range. Sample was extracted past end of recommended max. holding time. The chromatographic pattern was inconsistent with the profile of the reference fuel standard. The sample chromatographic pattern for TPH matches the chromatographic pattern of the specified standard but heavier hydrocarbons were also present (or detected). The sample chromatographic pattern for TPH matches the chromatographic pattern of the specified standard but lighter hydrocarbons were also present (or detected). Analyte was detected at a concentration below the reporting limit and above the laboratory method detection limit. Reported value is estimated. LCS/LCSD Recovery Percentage is within Marginal Exceedance (ME) Control Limit range. Parameter not detected at the indicated reporting limit. Spike recovery and RPD control limits do not apply resulting from the parameter concentration in the sample exceeding the spike concentration by a factor of four or greater. The sample extract was subjected to Silica Gel treatment prior to analysis. % Recovery and/or RPD out-of-range. Analyte presence was not confirmed by second column or GC/MS analysis. Solid - Unless otherwise indicated, solid sample data is reported on a wet weight basis, not corrected for % moisture. All QC results are reported on a wet weight basis Lincoln Way, Garden Grove, CA TEL:(714) FAX: (714) of 50
