Eng., Department of Development and Planning Aalborg University (Denmark) Søren K. Christensen, Section Manager, District Heating, Energy COWI A/S Dear Executive, Soaring energy consumption and severe levels of pollution are pressuring China to look for new ways of becoming more energy efficient while reducing its CO 2 emissions. Earlier this year, the Sate Council announced the establishment of a National Energy Commission (NEC), headed by Premier Wen Jia Bao himself that shows that China s government has raised energy issues to an unprecedented level and has made it a top priority in China s future strategies. Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and District Heating and Cooling (DHC), strategies and methods that have proven effective and successful in many developed countries, are now taken seriously under the background of this new energy strategy landscape. Millions of dollars are invested in replacing smaller boilers into large centralised power plants to provide power and heat, aiming to reduce energy consumption and emissions at the same time. The emerging eco-city model in major cities of China is also driving the development and implementations of DHC in China. However, these projects are scattered in massive geographic areas of China and have a long way to go before they achieve a comparable scale of those in the developed countries. A rational and feasible business model needs to be established to encourage and sustain the DHC development in China. Do you want to be part of it? District Heating & Cooling Asia is designed as a very timely platform to provide successful case studies, bridge technology gaps and discuss unique challenges of DHC in this market. This conference is also highly relevant to other countries in Asia with similar energy goals and processes. Attend this ground breaking District Heating & Cooling Asia conference to: Learn how to bridge the technology gaps between Chinese market and the leading players in the world Be updated on the most recent and current energy policies and regulations in China with a highlight from the 12th Five Year Plan Benefit from the most successful projects in the region and internationally with hands-on techniques and processes Gain knowledge on essential factors for a successful DHC project Understand the finance part of the equation not just the technology learning For more updated information on the conference, visit our website at I look forward to welcoming you at District Heating & Cooling Asia in February.
