BecausetheUSDMcannotbeconsideredametricofabsolutetruthindroughtmonitoring,thisstudy isnotintendedasanassessmentofindexperformance,butratherastudyofwhattypesand dmescalesofinformadonappeartobemostcorrelatedwithsubjecdveexpert/interpreteddrought severitydelineadons. Insomecases,lowcorreladonsmightinfactidendfyregionsofuniquecontribudonbyapardcular indicator,highlighdnginformadonnotcurrentlyconveyedintheusdm.forexample,loweresi correladonsarefoundinareaswheregroundwateriscontribudng(naturallyorthroughirrigadon)to thesurfacemoisturesupply. FutureworkwillbecompletedinYear3,focusingonanexpandedintercomparisonbetweenALEXIESI (andsurfacefluxesdmates)andnldas.
