1 PRESS RELEASE Date: October 1, 2018 Pages: 1 Issued by: District of Kitimat LNG Canada s Final Investment Decision KITIMAT, BC The District of Kitimat is extremely pleased to congratulate LNG Canada on their final investment decision to proceed with constructing an LNG export facility in Kitimat. We welcome the investment decision which triggers the commencement of the single largest private-sector investment in Canada s history, and will result in our nation s first LNG export facility. Mayor Phil Germuth said Kitimat is thrilled about the announcement today by LNG Canada. This is the culmination of many years of hard work by LNG Canada, our community, our Haisla Nation neighbors, many other communities, the federal and provincial governments and countless other stakeholders. LNG Canada has been an exceptional partner throughout the project development period. They did an outstanding job in effectively communicating and engaging with our community throughout the entire process. Mayor Germuth continued, For Kitimat, it s like reliving our history. In the late 1950s the Aluminum Company of Canada made the single largest private-sector investment in Canada s history when it built the aluminum smelter in Kitimat and developed our amazing community. The LNG Canada project will now take top-spot for the largest private-sector investment in Canada. We look forward to continuing our work with LNG Canada and its many partners. The project is aligned with our social, economic and environmental objectives. This investment decision is not only a win for our community; it will bring tremendous benefits to the entire region, province, nation, and the world. As the project begins to ramp up, we welcome the many workers, families, and other stakeholders to our community and to be a part of this exciting chapter in Kitimat s history.
