7 1.5 Water Requirement Operation Phase Total water requirement is 20 CMD per day. For the proposed project fresh water will be obtained from existing borewell. The proposed sewage treated plant is of capacity 10 CMD with STAD technology (Sewage treatment plant & Dispersal System). Treated water from sewage treatment plant will be used for gardening. 1.6 Solid Waste Generation Expected occupancy during operation phase is 40 people and the total solid waste generated from the existing structures is estimated to 30 kg/day. Organic waste is 12 kg/day and inorganic waste is 18 kg/day. 1.7 Power Requirements The maximum power requirement is 65 Kva during operation phase. Power is made available from the Grid supply. DG set of 65.5 Kva are provided for power backup in operation phase. Use of Renewable energy sources is contemplated to meet at least 10 % of the power requirement. Solar Water Heaters with power back-up will be installed in all Cottages. 1.8 Green Belt Development The design elements for the proposed landscaped areas will be fundamental to the growth and health of the community. There are 35 trees existing on the site. (30 Coconut & 2 Chikoo, 1 Lemon, 3 local species). Aditya Environmental Services Pvt. Ltd. Page 7 of 14

8 2. Environmental Management Plan 2.1 Introduction The entire planning for the construction and maintenance for the existing structures situated in CRZ III area and is being done with care to protect the coastal ecology as well as the rural environment. This chapter provides Environmental Management Plan (EMP) including the organizational planning, post project monitoring schedule and the budgetary provisions for long term environmental management. 2.2 Objectives of Environmental Management Plan The objective of Environmental Management Plan (EMP) is to formulate measures which will: Mitigate adverse impacts on various environmental components, which have been identified during the Environmental Impact Assessment study. Protect environmental resources wherever possible. Enhance the value of environmental components wherever possible. EMP also includes a monitoring plan to enable evaluation of the success or failure of environmental management measures, and to carry out reorientation of the plan if found necessary. It is emphasized that many of the protective and enhancement measures can be implemented by adopting suitable planning and design criteria for construction of the project. Further, it is necessary that the resources required for the mitigation/ protection, enhancement measures and monitoring are provided for in the cost estimates of the project, to ensure proper implementation. 2.3 Land Environment Following mitigation measures will be adopted for management of solid waste generated: The tourism industry in India is undergoing rapid changes. Eco-friendly measures & Ecotourism are order of the day. The project proponent intends to set fixed goals to improve aesthetic environment & achieve harmony with nature. Solid waste is segregated at the point of collection itself. Recyclable materials (plastics, paper, metal etc.) and wet garbage is collected in separate bins of different colors and stored separately, adequate covered facilities for storage of material will be provided. Aditya Environmental Services Pvt. Ltd. Page 8 of 14

9 Notices will be displayed prominently at various location to encourage waste segregation by Resort guests. The Wet Solid waste generated is directly used as nutrients for the trees within the site itself. A well-engineered Solid Waste Management System will be provided as a part of this development. Dry waste is disposed through the authorized waste collectors. 2.4 Air Environment Operation Phase To prevent exhaust from kitchens and DG sets (emergency power back-up), kitchen will be provided with proper ventilation, exhaust vents will be provided with grease traps and DG sets will conform to the norms specified by the CPCB under the EP Act and suitable acoustical enclosures will be provided The only source of air pollution in the proposed project is the DG set, which is used as emergency power back-up. The project proponent should provide adequate preventive maintenance to ensure low emissions during operation of DG sets. Also, DG sets is monitored at least once in 6 months to ensure compliance to EP Act norms. Road surface should be suitably finished to minimize dust emissions due to vehicular movements. Also, adequate curvatures are provided to ensure that traffic does not slow down at resort entrance. Adequate parking of two wheelers and four wheelers is provided to ensure that cars of Hotel guests do not cause any congestion on village roads. No solid wastes are not burnt in open and are disposed off in a scientific manner. 2.5 Noise Environment Operation phase: Manufacturers/ suppliers of noise generating machines/ equipments like pumps, DG sets are taken care of required measures for minimizing the noise levels generated by machines i.e. using noise absorbing material or providing enclosures or providing vibration dampening. Measures for acoustical treatment are as per CPCB guidelines. Noise generating sources are regularly oiled/ greased and their platforms are maintained properly so that they generate minimum vibration. The following measures shall be taken to avoid noise pollution during the operation phase. DG sets are confirm to the norms specified by the CPCB under the EP Act and suitable acoustical enclosures are provided Well-designed entrance pathways so that there is no clogging of cars or taxis. 10 Adequate parking spaces is provided. 2.6 Water Environment Operation phase: The proposed development is expected to source water from existing borewells. Three Septic tanks following the three soak pits (2 cmd tank for reuse of water) are provided on site. The STP sludge is removed periodically. Waste water from domestic sources (toilet blocks) shall be treated in Sewage Treatment Plant. Suitable water saving fixtures are installed for all bathrooms reduce water use. 2.7 Management of Socio-economic Environment Health During operation phase, the workers and the other supervisory staff at the site are provided periodical medical check-up. Whenever required, medical aid is also arranged from the first aid facility on site. All the workers are vaccinated and inoculated against communicable diseases. A doctor on call will be available. Government hospital is at the distance of 5 km from site. Sanitation All necessary precautions to avoid accumulation of water in the open places such as tanks, ponds, containers etc will be taken. This ensures that no breeding of mosquitoes will take place at the site. However, to control the mosquitoes and other flying insects regular spraying of biodegradable insecticides is carried out daily in the evening. It is necessary to reduce the source of diseases such as stagnant water. Fumigation shall be done to control of adult mosquitoes. It is often seen that the laborers ease themselves in open spaces. To keep the area clean, toilets with septic tanks is provided by the project authorities for the workers and they will be persuaded to use them. Other general cleanliness, collection of wastes regularly and their disposal systematically and at frequent intervals is scrupulously followed. The workers personal sanitation will improve their health and increase their productivity simultaneously decreasing their absenteeism. Socio-economic Aspects The existing development have generated employment opportunities to the locals. In India, tourism provides direct employment to 9 million people and indirect employment to another 13 million persons, thus providing a livelihood to 22 million persons. Sindhudurg is known to be a tourist destination worldwide. The locals will be benefited, not only by direct but also by some indirect job opportunities Aditya Environmental Services Pvt. Ltd. 11 2.8 Budget for Environment Protection Measures The cost for various environment protection measures is about 7.5 lakhs. The capital investment for environmental control and management is given in Table 5.1. Table 2.1 Budget for Environmental Protection Measures Sr. No. Particulars Capital Costs Operation & Maintenance Cost 1. Sewage Treatment Plant Green Belt Environmental Monitoring Solid Waste Management Total Environmental Management Dedicated Environmental Officers shall be appointed to look after the aspects such as operation/ maintenance of Decentralized Treatment system (DTS), regulatory compliance etc. All the staff members will be given specialized training to take care of operation & maintenance, firefighting and emergency operations. Periodically there shall be refresher courses to update the preparedness and technology. There should also be mock rehearsals and regular exercises in the operation of emergency services by a Committee. The committee will meet at least once in a month and consider all issues affecting the environment. It will inspect the works frequently and take quick decisions to correct them. Budget for environmental protection shall be used for same purpose and not directed anywhere else The members would take immediate action to mitigate the environmental upset. The following tables give the mitigation measure to be undertaken during construction & operational phase respectively with the agency responsible for implementation.
