2 Main Objectives The Municipality is seeking valorisation of the maritime costal zone of Cascais, through projects and actions that emphasize a greater social, economical and environmental sensibility. Sea's activities promotion include protection, recovery and enhancement of marine ecosystems with strong outreach process.

4 CASCAIS BRAND Cascais land of Kings and Fisherman Cascais Brand associated to high quality sea products is one of the most ambitious goals of the Municipality since fundamental projects have been developed to implement Cascais Brand : 1. Social Economic study of the fisherman comunity 2. Consumers guide of fish and sea-food 3. Cascais octopus quality certification

Cascais Octopus quality certification Octopus is the main catch of Cascais fisherman and is caught by sustainable fishing gears In 2008 Cascais Municipality conducted a study to test the quality of the Octopus and concluded that it s freshness is above average. In 2011 Cascais Octopus joined the Buy what s ours campaign. This is the first step towards a quality certification since it atests the origin of the product.

11 LOCAL NATURAL MARINE RESERVE Classified in 1998 as a Biophysical Interest Zone the rocky shores of Cascais Coast are still threatened by human factors. In 2008 began the environmental awarness of the users with: Tour guides to the rocky shores Touch Tank and Virtual Sightseeing in the environmental center. In 2012 the Municipality began the classification process of the first Local Natural Marine Reserve

13 MARÉ VIVA - young volunteering Maré Viva is a young volunteering program that exists since the year 2000 in Cascais beaches It now envolves 600 volunteers that keep the beaches clean, help the tourists with information, perform first aids, etc. Specialized teams of this volunteer also help disabled people to bathe in the sea.

15 Climate Change Awareness Centre The objective of this project is to study climate change impacts and adaptation measures on specific sectors, namely, water resources, coastal zones, human health, energy, tourism, forests, biodiversity and agriculture in the Cascais Municipality. The impact assessment will allow to strategically plan adaptation as a response to climate change in Cascais. Coordination Partners
