6 Process Add-ons Chemical Dosing, Pre-treatment & Reaction Systems Siltbster believes that, wherever possible, the se of chemicals to treat excess site water shold be avoided. However, there are some types of waste water, contaminants and efflent which still reqire the se of chemicals to increase the particle settlement rate, so as to enable their removal. This can be de to either the presence of very fine particles; clay; colloidal matter; color or simply the soil s own interparticle electrical bonds which need to be interpted in order for settlement to occr. In sch cases, chemical dosing is navoidable. Conseqently, Siltbster has developed an extensive range of chemical dosing systems to compliment it s award-winning settlement nits. Treatment Systems Flocclant Blocks Basically, a flocclant in a solid form. When immersed in water the solid dissolves, releasing the chemicals, casing a reaction. Single-Stage & Mlti-Stage Dosing Systems Siltbster s Single-Stage dosing systems range from a single dosing pmp linked to a drm of coaglant or acid/alkali for ph adjstment, throgh to an IBC based flocclant batch makep system and associated pmped dosing. The dosing rate is flly controllable and can be linked to flow rate and chemicals can be added to mixing/reaction tanks, in-line or via pipeflocclators. For more complex dosing regimes reqiring similar levels of accracy, Siltbster offers Mlti-stage dosing systems, inclding staged coaglant and flocclant dosing, often with an intermediate stage for ph adjstment. 7 Sldge De-watering Filter Press De-watering Siltbster can spply a nmber of processes to de-water fine solids sldges prodced by de-silting projects and on-site water treatments. Siltbster s extensive hire fleet boasts a nmber of Filter Presses, ranging from 10 litre, 280 litre and p to 900 litre capacities. Also available, are larger 2,500 litre capacity nits, more commonly sed with Siltbster s Gritbster Washing Systems. As a direct means of de-watering, Filter Presses tranform solids laden slrry or sldges into a filter cake for easy handling, transportation, recycling or disposal to landfill as non-liqid waste. Siltbster can spply a Filter Press as a stand alone nit or with any ancilliary plant and eqipment, sch as feed pmps; feed pmp air compressors; agitated sldge storage tanks; sldge conditioning flocclation and pre-treatment and steel raised spport strctres. Chemical Pre-treatment Siltstoppa De-watering Bags Siltbster s specialist Siltstoppa geotextile de-watering bags are low cost, low tech and ideal for de-watering fine solids sldges reslting from on-site silt and water treatment processes. Manfactred by Siltbster from specialist geotextile materials, the bags come in a variety of sizes and can be tailored to individal project reqirements. Siltstoppa De-watering Bags are available individally, to sit on a sitable slab or drainage area, or complete with their own hook-lift roll-on/roll-off RORO container, making them easy to transport for disposal. The bags can be sed on their own or as part of a complete water treatment package. How do they work? Siltstoppa De-watering Bags se passive technology, reqiring no power. The sldge is pre-flocclated to make the solids bind together and the water easily released similar to crdling milk. Using the bags is simply a case of pmping them fll of sldge and letting the bleed water drain ot throgh the geotextile fabric. The escaping water can be captred, re-sed or collected and discharged off-site. After the water has been drained ot, the Siltstoppa bag retains the de-watered solids. It can either be split open on-site and the de-watered solids removed by means of an excavator (or similar eqipment), or the fll geobags, in the RORO container, can be transported off-site for disposal. 11 ph Adjstment ph adjstment is an integral part of many of Siltbster s treatment processes, inclding highly alkaline concrete washwater, hydrodemolition blast water, variable ph grondwater and chemical pre-treatment (which may reqire raising or lowering the ph as part of the process). The most common form of ph Adjstment on a constrction site is that associated with cement laden water, reqiring adjstment from high ph to near netral ph. However, the ph level of any discharge off-site typically needs to be within the following limits: ph 6 to 9 for discharges to Controlled Waters (srface water/grondwater). Sbject to the reqirements of a EA/SEPA Discharge Consent. Grondwater Treatment Systems ph 5 to 10 for discharges to fol sewer. 12 Separating Free Phase Hydrocarbons (oils) and water Hydrocarbons are commonly encontered on constrction sites in the form of petrolem based sbstances sch as: Petrol Diesel Kerosene Oils (Engine Oil, Lbricants, Mineral Oil etc.) To deal with oil contaminated water, Siltbster has developed its own highly sccessfl range of transportable Oil Water Separators which can accommodate a wide variety of flow rates and applications. Separation by flotation sing tilted plate technology Siltbster provides a nmber of methods for separating oil from water. Based on many years of experience, the Company can advise on the most efficient techniqe and sitable eqipment for the sccessfl removal of the hydrocarbon contaminants. Tilted plate nits provide a characteristically large separation area to allow oils to float and accmlate as a layer on the srface of the water, where they are drawn off by an oil skimmer bar. As the contaminated water is fed throgh the Oleophilic media, the individal oil globles combine or coalesce into larger particles, increasing their overall size and boyancy. Sbseqently, they become sfficiently boyant to rise to the srface for removal. DAF Unit Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) Units DAF nits introdce micro-fine air bbbles into the contaminated liqid. The bbbles cling to oil particles, floating them to the srface for removal by means of a series of rotating scrapers. DAF nits can float off a range of hydrophobic componds and are highly effective on both constrction and remediation sites. Oil Water Separators Conventional coalescing media has the potential to become clogged and conseqently, ineffective or less efficient. Even if sed in conjnction with a silt trap or settlement nit, sfficient minte particles may remain to inhibit performance. Siltbster s CM400-OWS, however, incorporates Q-PAC media which maximises the coalescing area, thereby, minimising the risk of clogging. 14 Gritbster UNO Constrction Site Road Sweeper Waste De-watering System The Gritbster UNO from Siltbster is a niqe modlar system. Designed to accept wet constrction site road sweepings, it de-waters the waste for easier disposal or mckaway (in accordance with a site s waste management plan) and treats the water for disposal to sewer or re-se. Siltbster Water Clarifier The Gritbster UNO is constrcted on an ISO Frame container-type base, making it easily transportable. Similar in natre to Siltbster s Gritbster Fll Recycling System (bt withot the washing, material segregation and water recycling system), the compact UNO plant can be loaded with the raw roadwaste directly from the sweeper vehicles. Siltbster HB40R Clarifier The HB40R Clarifier is a single hopper variant of the Siltbster s standard settlement nit and provides 40m 2 of settlement area in a small footprint. It is fitted with a electrically operated sldge hopper rake. Siltbster CM400 Coalescing Media Oil Water Separator (OWS) To captre any oil, petrol or other free floating hydrocarbons present in the road waste, Siltbster incldes a CM400-OWS Oil Water Separator which is connected downstream of the Water Clarifier. The Siltbster CM400 Coalescing Media Separator is a self contained nit which removes free phase hydrocarbons by passing water throgh an Oleophilic (hydrocarbon attracting) media, minimising the risk of releasing oils into the local sewer network.
