2 Tamiami Trail Background & History & Attributes Background US Highway 41 Focus Area - 70 Miles of the Trail within Manatee and Sarasota Counties History 12,000 Years Ago Evidence of Human Habitation Wide Tamiami Trail Completed through Manatee County connecting Tampa to Miami Florida Legislature designated the Trail as a State Highway Florida Scenic and Heritage Highway by the State of Florida Program developed to preserve, maintain and enhance Florida s cultural, historical, recreational, natural and scenic resources (holistic approach) Allows residents to create their own vision by developing a Corridor Management Plan (community driven approach)
