2 The conference The conference will focus on the plans, projects, results and best practices in the field of EE & RES, implemented by Bulgarian and European municipalities in the framework of the Covenant of Mayors and innovative NGOs and companies as well. The conference will include expert presentations, best practices examples, and interactive discussions among participants. The aims of the conference The conference is aimed at integrating the abilities of the participants in the following fields: New policies and legislation in the field of EE & RES; Sustainable local and regional energy development and the role of the Covenant of Mayors; Successful European models for bioregions and projects for bioenergy on the local level; Integrated projects for EE & RES in buildings; Innovative projects of energy agencies and municipalities. Participants Major target groups are: Representatives of municipalities participating in the Covenant of Mayors and BioRegions; Mayors, municipal counsellors, municipal experts; Representatives of energy agencies and organisations from Bulgaria and Europe; Representatives of companies in the field of EE & RES; Expected results After the conference, the participants will have acquired: Better knowledge of the participation of cities, municipalities and regions of Europe for reduction of 2 emissions through an increase in the share of EE & RES; Better knowledge of the opportunities for integration of EE & RES in projects for buildings; More information on national plans for EE & RES until 2020 and the participation of municipalities in the development of Sustainable Energy Action Plans; Increased awareness of the application of best practices on the local level by the new EU member states;

The agencies are non-governmental organisations providing expert energy-related services to a wide range of clients, including municipalities and private firms. BioRegions organises its stakeholder workshop within the conference, consisting of Panel I and Panel II. The project supports five rural areas in Europe in their effort to secure 1/3 of their energy needs from local biomass. In Bulgaria we are working with the region of Sredna Gora Mountains (Panagurishte, Strelcha, Hissar, Brezovo, Karlovo, Ihtiman).
