2 A Gegraphical Indicatin r a GI is a sign used n prducts that have a specific gegraphical rigin and pssess qualities r a reputatin that are due t that rigin. Darjeeling Tea, Mahabaleshwar Strawberry, Blue Pttery f Jaipur, Banarasi Sarees and Tirupati Laddus are sme f the GIs. GI prducts can benefit the rural ecnmy in remte areas, by supplementing the incmes f artisans, farmers, weavers and craftsmen. Our rural artisans pssess unique skills and knwledge f traditinal practices and methds, passed dwn frm generatin t generatin, which need t be prtected and prmted. Recent develpments: Unin Minister f Cmmerce and Industry, Suresh Prabhu launched the lg and tagline fr the Gegraphical Indicatins (GI) f India and said that the GI will give the rightful share f intellectual prperty t the artisan and the place f rigin f the prduct. The Department f Industrial Plicy and Prmtin has taken several initiatives and is actively invlved in prmtin and marketing f GIs with a visin t enhance the hrizn bth scially and ecnmically fr GI prducers. The first prduct t get a GI tag in India was the Darjeeling tea in There are a ttal f 325 prducts frm India that carry this indicatin. 29th Cnference f Indian Sciety f Organ Transplantatin The Vice President f India, Shri M. There was a huge leap in cadaveric rgan dnatins in the last 4-5 years, the demand-supply remained hugely unmet because f lw rates f rgan dnatin at 0.8 per millin ppulatin when smaller cuntries like Spain and Cratia were having rates f 36 per millin and 32 per millin respectively. He said India is knwn fr unity in diversity and altruism in all cultures and we need t increase the dnatin rates t meet the demand f rgans fr rgan transplantatin. Emphasizing that preventin was better than cure, the Vice President said many end stage diseases can be prevented by lifestyle mdificatins. The Gvernment has cnsidered slid waste management as tp pririty area f urban develpment and added that the launch f Swachh Bharat Missin (SBM) Clean India Missin envisages 100 per cent f the urban ppulatin t be cvered under Slid Waste Management (SWM) services. Impact: Behaviural change and citizen/cmmunity participatin in SWM is the key t sustain a prject related t management f municipal slid waste and if municipal slid waste management is dne thrugh prper planning and management, it wuld lead t a business case f incme generatin and prvide financial supprt t ULBs by generating revenue. Indian Railways enters int MC & MU with Gvernment f Russian Federatin A Memrandum f Cperatin was signed between the Ministry f Railways f the Republic f India and the Jint Stck Cmpany Russian Railways. The MC intends t carry frward the activities taken up under the Memrandum f Understanding signed between the tw cuntries n 24 th December, The Memrandum f cperatin includes: Implementatin f speed up gradatin prject f Nagpur-Secunderabad sectin; Setting up f single traffic cntrl centre fr managing mixed traffic at lcal level; Best practices in freight carg peratin; Develpment f multi mdal terminals; and Exchange f best technlgies being practiced by the tw cuntries.

Aim: Task Frce fr Clsing the Skills Gap in India Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister f Petrleum and Natural Gas & Skill Develpment and Entrepreneurship launched a Task Frce fr Clsing the Skills Gap in India, in cllabratin with the Wrld Ecnmic Frum. The task frce will bring tgether leaders frm business, Gvernment, civil sciety, and the educatin and training sectrs t accelerate the future-prfing f educatin and training systems in the cuntry. Develp an actin plan t address skills gaps in India and make the Indian wrkfrce ready fr jbs f future.
