3 Uganda: A Snapshot Uganda, officially the Republic of Uganda, is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered to the east by Kenya, to the north by South Sudan, to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the southwest by Rwanda, and to the south by Tanzania. 4 Uganda: In Numbers Uganda is one of the poorest nations in the world. In 2012, 37.8 percent of the population lived on less than $1.25 a day. Uganda GDP The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Uganda was worth 27 billion US dollars in The GDP value of Uganda represents 0.04 percent of the world economy. GDP in Uganda averaged 5.88 USD Billion from 1960 until 2014, reaching an all time high of 27 USD Billion in 2014 and a record low of 0.42 USD Billion in GDP in Uganda is reported by the World Bank. Despite making enormous progress in reducing the countrywide poverty incidence from 56 percent of the population in 1992 to 24.5 percent in Poverty remains deep-rooted in the country's rural areas, which are home to 84 percent of Ugandans. Uganda has substantial natural resources, including fertile soils, regular rainfall, small deposits of copper, gold, and other minerals, and recently discovered oil. Agriculture is the most important sector of the economy, employing over two-thirds of the work force. Coffee accounts for the bulk of export revenues.
