Saving Energy at School Dini Siti Anggraeni S.Pd., M.Si

Energy is defined as "the ability to do work."

Types of Energy 1. Non Renewable source of energy Most of the energy we use comes from fossil fuels, such as coal, natural gas and petroleum. Fossil fuels are put through a process called combustion in order to produce energy. Combustion releases pollution, such as carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide, which may contribute to acid rain and global warming.

2. Renewable Sources of Energy Renewable sources of energy can be used over and over again. Renewable resources include solar energy, wind, geothermal energy, biomass and hydropower.

Saving Energy Once they are gone they cannot be used again. So, we must all do our part in saving as much energy as we can.

Ways of Saving Energy in School 1. 3R (Reuse,Reduce,Recycle)&Zero Waste 2. Rainwater utilization systems 3. Use alternatives Energy 4. Eco friendly and Smart Gardening 5. Energy Patrol

3R (Reuse,Reduce,Recycle) Reuse means to give the maximum utility to the things without having to throw them away, if they are still good. Recycle means to use the products over and over again Reduce means to prevent everything that generates unnecessary waste. Zero Waste? Everyone must bring their own Lunch Box and Water Bottle. Paperless Recycle organic trash such as the leaves in the school garden.

Rainwater utilization systems In order to provide clean water in rural areas that have a high rainfall, can be developed Rain Water Utilization System. This system can be developed and managed together to meet the needs of clean water.

Alternatives Energy Electricity produced by solar cells is clean and silent. Because they do not use fuel other than sunshine, PV systems do not release any harmful air or water pollution into the environment, deplete natural resources, or endanger animal or human health. The primary disadvantage of solar power is that it obviously cannot be created during the night. The power generated is also reduced during times of cloud cover (although energy is still produced on a cloudy day). Solar panel energy output is maximized when the panel is directly facing the sun.

Eco friendly & Smart Gardening Vertical Gardening This techique was the most doable and sustainable way to do the gardening in our school land that is very narrow.

Energy patrol What does the Energy Patrol do? The Energy Patrol makes sure that lights and other things that use power, like computers, are turned off in your school or youth center when no one is using them. Lights are a good target for the Energy Patrol because in most schools or youth centers, up tohalf of all the energy used in the building is for lighting. Why start an Energy Patrol? The patrol gives students an opportunity to practice leadership skills by getting involved and taking responsibility for their school. The patrol also reduces the school's energy costs so that more money can be used for school programs. DeVargas School in Cupertino, California started the first Energy Patrol. The school was able to save about 33 percent (one-third) of its energy costs about $1,000 each month through its patrol.
