2 Hong Kong Accreditation Service Mr. Tim WONG is Accreditation Officer of Hong Kong Accreditation Service (HKAS). HKAS provides accreditation for laboratories, certification bodies and inspection bodies located in Hong Kong. HKAS is a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (PAC) and Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC). HKAS is also a signatory to the multilateral mutual recognition arrangements of these cooperations. 3 Intertek Testing Services Hong Kong Ltd. Ms. NG has over 10 years of technical experience in product chemical safety services. She is familiarized with different international and national standards of chemical safety of different kinds of consumer products including well-established US/EU markets to Asia Pacific and other emerging markets and also the various standard developments. In the past years, she concentrated on the business development of textiles, leather product, footwear, toys, electrical product, and hardgoods chemical safety and also provided advisory and consultancy services to manufacturers, supplier and retailer regarding the update of worldwide safety standards and regulation and technical research. She has regularly hosted and spoken for seminars targeted at engineers and professionals in Hong Kong and China with topics in regard to textiles, toys and consumer products chemical safety. 吳娟光小姐在產品安全測試領域有超過 10 年的專業經驗, 精通美國 歐洲 亞太區及其他新興市場的各類產品國家安全標準, 為各類產品提供安全性方面的技術支持 近年, 她集中對紡織品 皮革產品 鞋類 玩具 電器產品及耐用消費品的業務發展, 也為製造商 供應商和零售商提供全球安全標準更新的諮詢及顧問服務和技術研究方面的專業咨詢 此外, 吳娟光小姐亦經常在香港和中國大陸舉辦的紡織品 玩具及耐用消費品的化學安全研討會上擔任主題演講嘉賓 The trend of green consumerism has extended to textile and apparels. The major regulatory requirements like REACH in EU, CPSIA and CA Prop 65 in US are widely known by the industry. With an increase in green legislation worldwide, the control on the present of restricted substances and chemical hazard would become a key concern from the buyers and suppliers. The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has just updated the candidate list which includes 161 substances of very high concern (SVHC) since 17 Dec The seminar would provide the latest regulatory requirement and development for textile, trim and leather products. 4 CMA Testing and Certification Laboratories Mr. Joseph CHIU is the Certification Manager of CMA Testing and Certification Laboratories (CMATCL). CMATCL is a leading independent quality assurance organization in Hong Kong. CMA Testing was established in 1979 by The Chinese Manufacturers Association of Hong Kong, which is one of the largest and oldest Chamber of Commerce and Industry organizations of Hong Kong. CMATCL has been at the forefront in checking and monitoring environmental protection, an aspect highly concerned by the public. A series of testing services including Indoor Air Quality, waste water, drinking water, etc. can be offered with close cooperation with our public and private counterparts. It is also the first organization performs product carbon audit in Hong Kong and establishing the first overseas recognized Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) label with the Carbon Trust, a highly reputable organization of PCF in the United Kingdom. We believe that environmentally friendly manufacturing would be an important factor for success of doing business in the market. Sustainability is no longer just a slogan for a clever marketing campaign, but a prerequisite for a long-term business and even survival in the market. Some giant European retailers are already asking for a certificate offered by 3rd party carbon footprint certification organizations to show their products were produced in green. One the other side, the European consumers are willing to spend more money on "green" products. The textile industry is one of the biggest greenhouse gases (GHG) emitters on Earth, owing to its huge size and scope. The garment manufacturing processes consume significant quantities of fossil fuel. Apparel and textiles account for approximately 10 percent of the total carbon impact. It really boggles our mind that an annual global production of 60 billion kilograms of fabrics needs to consume 1 trillion kilowatt hours of electricity and up to 9 trillion liters of water. No wonder the emission of GHG across the entire supply chain has become an increasingly important concern for the textile industry and society. 4
