3 The Ohio Department of Transportation, District 12 is responsible for the maintenance and construction of all interstates, U.S. and State Routes in unincorporated municipalities in Cuyahoga, Geauga and Lake counties. Every spring, we shift our focus from snow and ice removal to the construction and repair of our roadways. Improvement of the highway network is a positive and necessary responsibility. By improving traffic flow, ODOT provides a smooth, safe and efficient ride for travel and commerce in the region. The 2012 Construction Guide includes information about major construction projects in the District 12, three-county area. Projects to which ODOT has contributed money but are administered by local agencies are listed at the back of the book. Tentative start and completion dates are included to provide you with a project timeline. At a later date, we will be providing public completion dates, which indicate when the roadway will be open to traffic. As with every construction season, we ask motorists to use caution when traveling through work zones. By obeying posted speed limits and exercising caution, motorists can do their part to keep both our construction employees and fellow motorists safe. This project also includes work on SR 84 in Lake County. IMPACT: Traffic will be maintained. DESCRIPTION: Culvert repairs on SR 252 between John Road and Butternut Ridge Road in Olmsted Township. This project also includes work on SR 700 and SR 87 in Geauga County. IMPACT: SR 252 will be closed between John Road and Butternut Ridge Road for approximately four days during construction. LOCATION: Hope Memorial Bridge, Cleveland ESTIMATED COST: $5,060,000 PROJECT I.D.: May 2012 DATE: October 2012 DESCRIPTION: Construct a multi-purpose trail on the north side of the Lorain-Carnegie (Hope Memorial) Bridge between Ontario Street and West 20 th Street in the city of Cleveland. IMPACT: Multiple lane and ramp closures are expected. The existing I-90 bridge will remain open, however motorists are advised to Opt for the Alternate and use I-490 and I-77 to avoid the construction zone. Visit for more information. DESCRIPTION: Bridge deck replacement of the Denison Avenue bridge over SR 176 (the Jennings Freeway) in the city of Cleveland. IMPACT: Traffic will be maintained with one lane in each direction on Denison Avenue over SR 176. Heavy truck traffic on Denison Avenue will not be permitted to make left turns to access SR 176. DESCRIPTION: Slope repair on SR 17 (Granger Road) eastbound, just west of the Schaaf Road bridge in the Village of Brooklyn Heights. DESCRIPTION: Extend Bessemer Avenue from East 87 th Street to Union Avenue in the city of Cleveland. IMPACT: East 88 th Street will be closed between Bessemer Avenue and Union Avenue for approximately 90days. Motorists will be detoured via Union Avenue, East 79 th Street and East 93 rd Street. ESTIMATED COST: $8,200,000 PROJECT I.D.: DATE: October 2012 DESCRIPTION: Resurfacing of I-90 between SR 283 (Lakeshore Blvd.) and SR 2 in the cities of Cleveland and Euclid and the village of Bratenahl. Not more than one ramp will be closed at a time. DESCRIPTION: Resurfacing on I-480N between I-480 and I-271 in the cities of Bedford Heights and North Randall. LOCATION: U.S. Route 322, Gates Mills ESTIMATED COST: $2,500,000 PROJECT I.D.: May 2012 DATE: October 2012 DESCRIPTION: Resurfacing on U.S. 322 (Mayfield Road) between SR 91 (SOM Center Road) and County Line Road in the village of Gates Mills. 18 PROJECTS WITH MINIMAL IMPACTS TO TRAFFIC Chagrin Boulevard, Cuyahoga County Traffic signal upgrade on Chagrin Boulevard between Belvoir Boulevard and Orange Place in the city of Beachwood, and the villages of Highland Hills, Orange and Woodmere. Traffic will be maintained. Complete: May 2012 Lake Avenue and West 76 th Street, Cuyahoga County Rehabilitation of the pedestrian tunnels at Lake Avenue at the West Shoreway and at West 76 th Street and the Norfolk Southern Railroad and the West Shoreway in the city of Cleveland. The W. 76 th Street tunnel and Lake Avenue walkway connecting Edgewater State Park and Clifton Blvd./Cleveland Memorial Shoreway tunnel is closed for major renovation until December Pedestrian and bicycle access via the West 65 th Street tunnel is maintained. Intermittent lane closures on the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway are expected, however impacts to traffic will be minimal. Complete: December 2012 Lakewood Signals, Cuyahoga County City wide signal upgrade project (Phases 2 & 3) on U.S. 6A (Detroit Avenue) between Cleveland Metropark Drive and Lakeland Avenue and Arthur Avenue and Cohassett Avenue in the city of Lakewood. Phase 3 also includes signals on West Clifton Boulevard at Sloane Avenue and Arlington Road. Complete: July 2012 Interstate 271 and Interstate 480, Cuyahoga County Crack sealing on I-271 between Emery Road and Fairmount Blvd. in Pepper Pike, Woodmere, Orange and Highland Hills and on I-480 between the Lorain County line and the Rocky River in North Olmsted and Fairview Park. Single lane closures will not impact peak travel times. Begin: May 2012/Complete: October 2012 Interstate 480, Cuyahoga County Crack sealing on I-480 between Transportation Blvd. and Warrensville Center Road in the cities of Garfield Heights, Warrensville Heights and Maple Heights. IMPACT: SR 87 between SR 306 and Caves Road will be closed for seven days. Motorists will be detoured via SR 91, U.S. 322 and SR 306. This project also includes work on SR 252 in Cuyahoga County. IMPACT: SR 87 traffic will be maintained. SR 700 will be closed for during construction. IMPACT: During construction traffic will be maintained at all U.S. 422 ramps at SR 306. DESCRIPTION: Resurfacing on SR 306 between Washington St. and U.S. 322 in Bainbridge, Russell and Chester Townships and the city of South Russell and one culvert replacement on SR 306 near Dines Road in Russell Township. IMPACT: Traffic will be maintained utilizing flaggers on SR 306 during resurfacing. SR 306 near Dines Road, during culvert replacement, will be closed for 14 days. IMPACT: Traffic will be maintained. Lane closures are expected during off-peak hours. LOCATION: State Route 2, Eastlake, Willoughby & Mentor ESTIMATED COST: $2,000,000 PROJECT I.D.: July 2012 DATE: November 2012 DESCRIPTION: Pavement repairs at various locations on SR 2 between SR 91 and Newell Creek in the cities of Eastlake, Willoughby and Mentor. LOCATION: Interstate 90, Village of Madison & LeRoy, Perry & Madison Townships BID AMOUNT: $31,646,444 PROJECT I.D.: START DATE: April 2010 DATE: June 2012 DESCRIPTION: Major pavement reconstruction on Interstate 90 between Paine Road and the Ashtabula County Line in Village of Madison & LeRoy, Perry & Madison Townships. Minor impacts to traffic.
