2 National vision Our national vision for sustainable development, biodiversity, green economy and ecosystems is: Promotion of SDGs in national planning include: Efficient resources and develop green economy Increase welfare and reduce inequality Decrease environmental risk Live in safe zone without lack of resources and environmental crisis 2

4 Policy priorities and policy tools Sustainable development policy priorities and tools: Improve environmental conditions respect on: IRAN's general environmental policies 6th development planning Cooperation of agencies Committing agencies to provide SDG report Promotion of training and awareness 4

5 Institutions Stakeholders in environment sustainable development and green economy policy: Central government agencies like: Ministry of industry, mine and trade, Petroleum ministry, Energy ministry, Agriculture ministry, Department of environment, Plan & budget organization, Statistical center of Iran and etc. Private sectors like: NGOs Manufacturing establishments and other private sectors 5 universities

6 Institutions Institutional mechanisms in place to make sustainability and green economy decisions: Cooperation of different ministries, NGO S and universities in form of council of environment planning. Committee of green economy consisting of: 1. Policy making of Green laws development 2. Green employment 3. Green financing Iran s government aims to add environmental fees in Direct Taxes Act as green tax 6

7 Institutions The role of the National Statistical office: SCI is national focal point regarding official statistics including environmental statistics collaboration with agencies for preparing and collecting environmental data. Achieving administrative data from government agencies and converting to statistical data to prepare statistical indicators. Implementing different surveys related to environment statistics. 7

8 Knowledge Key documents and data sources: Census and Surveys: e.g.: Population, dwelling unit, etc. Water consumption, sewages, solid and liquid waste, energy consumption Environmental characteristics of Households Administrative data: e.g. : Air and water quality Water resources Sewages Protected areas and etc. 8

15 Constraints Applying the framework of SEEA in 4 th and 5 th development plan Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA): In 6th development plan, all executive agencies (private and cooperative sectors) are forced to apply EIA and SEA in their projects. Applying tariff in order to promote renewable energies. Pollution charges: based on 6th development plan, all polluting firms impinging environmental standards or regulations, must pay one percent of their sale price as charges, in addition to tax payment. Allocate budget for preparing timber resources statistics Studying and localizing indicators of water account and timber 15 resources statistics

16 Opportunities: Priority Actions Preparing SDG indicators Providing GREEN FINANCE SYSTEM: set of policies, institutional arrangements and Infrastructures, steers financial resources toward green industry through loans, private equity, stocks and bonds, insurance, emissions trading and other financial services. 16
