The Future of Energy in Homes CRBRA/NYSES Luncheon NY-GEO Conference 2017 EggGeothermal Consulting

EggGeothermal Promotes the Industry EggGeothermal Consulting

Net-Zero Efforts National Geographic EggGeothermal Consulting

Net Zero Efforts REW Sierra Club EggGeothermal Consulting

GHPs in NY NYSERDA Efforts NY-GEO St. Patrick's Cathedral Trevor Day School EggGeothermal Consulting

Solar Energy Storage in Homes Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) Utilities: Distributed Energy Platform Utilities provide the connectivity between and among DERs and the bulk power system EggGeothermal Consulting

Homes Can Participate in Market Homes will be able to: Buy and sell energy Support local distribution Use of car batteries for peak loads Based Transactions EggGeothermal Consulting

Solar Shingles and Window Panes? The possibilities seem endless This is sustainability Everything serves more than a single purpose EggGeothermal Consulting

Best Hope for the Future? EggGeothermal Consulting

More Solar Energy? Geothermal HVAC is Solar Energy 50% of the Sun s energy is absorbed and stored by the Earth EggGeothermal Consulting

The Basics of Geothermal Exchange A geothermal heat pumps 5 units of solar energy out of the Earth, while using only one unit of energy for the heat pump For a 3 ton, the geothermal heat pump is producing 8.4 kwh of energy very hour! A 3 ton GHP produces 8.4 kwh each hour that it runs EggGeothermal Consulting

Geothermal Loop Types Geothermal heat pumps have pipes that go into the Earth in various ways from which they extract the renewable solar energy EggGeothermal Consulting

Water Pump=Heat Pump Water is not available for our use until it s pumped out of the Earth. Similarly, the heat in the Earth needs to be pumped out for our use. That is the purpose of a geothermal heat pump; to pump heat. EggGeothermal Consulting

All Electric is Good The electric grid is becoming greener all of the time. Go with all sensible, all electric appliances, and you will be making the right choice EggGeothermal Consulting

Definitions of Net Zero REW article The DOE states in its report, Site energy consumption can be useful for understanding the performance of the building and the building systems, but it does not tell the whole story of impacts from resource consumption and emissions associated with the energy use. EggGeothermal Consulting

NYS Definitions are Better EggGeothermal Consulting

Sierra Club Stated it Right: Build it right Access on-site (renewable solar energy) Use solar PV for electrical consumption First, design the building envelope tight and well insulated, he said. Second, put in geothermal cooling and heating. EggGeothermal Third, put in Consulting enough 2017 solar energy to cover the rest. 17

Here s the way Greg and Jill see it EggGeothermal Consulting

First, We Need a New Story This is Greg and Jill They have a home and kids They like shiny and trendy things They like shiny green things like solar panels, windmills, and electric cars EggGeothermal Consulting

Greg and Jill Go Green They install solar panels They buy an electric car They re pleased with their new green-life EggGeothermal Consulting

Greg and Jill find out Natural Gas is bad ; it creates GHG emissions They attend a town meeting They learn about the Climate Action Plan They hear that their NG bill will go up They realize NG is not the best choice anymore EggGeothermal Consulting

Greg and Jill realize that most homes and businesses use fire to heat They become concerned about combustion in their home They don t want to make more greenhouse gasses All their neighbors are talking about GHG emissions What can they do? EggGeothermal Consulting

Greg and Jill discover that an allelectric home is greenest After hearing the experts, they learn that an all electric home wins the contest All electric is safe, dependable and green They want to be safe and green like their neighbors EggGeothermal Consulting

Greg and Jill learn about geothermal Just like a water-pump is used to pump water up into a building A geothermal system pumps solar heat stored in the ground up into their home It pumps heat in or out of the home, depending on summer or winter weather conditions heat pumps EggGeothermal Consulting

Greg and Jill learn that a geothermal ground loop is pricey Like other permanent home features, a ground-loop is expensive Too expensive for them They would have to cut costs somewhere They re not happy that it costs so much to gogreen EggGeothermal Consulting

Greg and Jill get good news from NYSERDA and New York State New York has programs to help folks go green The government is offering incentives for solar and for geothermal heat pumps EggGeothermal Consulting

Greg and Jill now have choices They pick the best choice to meet their needs and their bank account They save money each month Their geothermal heat pump heats and cools their home better than ever It heats the hot water tank, too EggGeothermal Consulting

Greg and Jill have no GHG emissions from their home anymore Well, almost none; they still like to barbeque outside on the propane grill sometimes and that s probably OK! EggGeothermal Consulting

Geothermal Building Facts ASHRAE Building What could be better? EggGeothermal Consulting

Always looking for Better and Improved Products Geothermal Calculation Software (GeoHourly) Better Geothermal Fluids (Kilfrost) EggGeothermal Consulting

Reducing first costs ASHRAE HQ Atlanta Associated Ground Exchanger Software criteria: The ground loop is designed applying ASHRAE methodology, but runs the heat pump equipment in each building zone hourly not once a year at max load conditions. ASHRAE design conditions and 8760 climate libraries are built-in saving time and improving accuracy. Calculates the energy cost of each building zone during the ground loop design. Analyses the payback years for excess design contingency immediately, so the designer can determine the cost of recovery of the installed ground loop. Operates the heat pump equipment in a realistic manner changes from 1st stage to 2nd stage, or variable speed at the appropriate hour of operation. Applies to residential and commercial projects, and is the only design method that meets the commercial standard ANSI/CSA C448-Series EggGeothermal All Rights Reserved 31

Thank you for choosing Geothermal as the foundation of Net-Zero! EggGeothermal Consulting
