Belw are answers that were prvided: Sunding bard fr weed prblems in the cunty Fr example, when neighbrs get mad at neighbrs due t weed issues. This grup is an pprtunity t prvide help. Buffer fr new weed prblems Successful utreach educatin abut new weeds Open avenues and drs fr funding t implement n the grund prjects Cst share/technical assistance Educating citizens t identify weeds and empwering them t cntrl the weeds cnfidently Example: When the first ventenata shws up in the cunty, we have prvided adequate educatin and utreach s that the landwner knw what it is and why it is a prblem. The steering cmmittee is infrmed and is able t respnd by assisting the landwner with assistance and funding t eradicate the knw ppulatin. The grup is

2 then able t ntify surrunding landwners and cnduct surveys t ensure the issue has nt spread. Branding: Website, Lgs, missin statement, thers The grup discussed the CWMA missin statement fr the first time. The fllwing is the current versin, which Aarn nted can be amended as we mve frward: T imprve invasive weed species management cunty-wide thrugh increased cmmunicatin, crdinatin, and the sharing f technical expertise and knwledge between landwners, natural resurce managers, and all interested parties, as well as, t seek funding t imprve and implement n the grund weed management prjects. The grup discussed the current CWMA webpage. Aarn asked if the steering cmmittee wuld be willing t have their cntact infrmatin n the webpage Everyne agreed. The grup agreed that the webpage shuld include a resurces sectin that wuld include wh t cntact fr help a link t the Washingtn State Nxius Weed Bard website including the Nxius Weed List and identify a weed tl ther nline resurces. Aarn nted that the webpage will be an nging wrk in prgress. The grup discussed the CWMA Lg: Aarn presented tw versins and nted that yellw starthistle was selected because the bend matched the utline f Duglas Cunty. The grup agreed that they linked the versin that spelled ut Cperative Weed Management Area ppsed t the ne with just CWMA. Gathead and bindweed were als prpsed as weeds that culd be in the lg. Aarn said he wuld play arund with Phtshp and see what he culd cme up with. Other items discussed fr branding were t-shirts and badges Cntinue Grup Discussin frm last time: CWMA Pririties. Did we miss any? The grup discussed what was meant by the item frm last time CRP rules dn t line up w/ weed eclgy: can we prvide guidance t help? The basic idea is that CRP rules dn t allw fr weed cntrl in the spring during nesting seasn. This desn t align with mst weed s eclgy, as the spring is an imprtant windw fr cntrl, especially t stp seed prductin. It was nted that the Weed Management Task Frce can grant a waiver if it is requested, and s far all waivers have been granted. It was suggested that the steering cmmittee culd help crdinate applicatins within the landscape and

3 based n bird lcatins t help mitigate impacts. It was als suggested that the CWMA culd spnsr vlunteer grup hand pull wrk parties during the restricted perid. Seek Funding/Cst-Share/technical assistance was added t the n the grund prjects categry. The grup then discussed specific weed species that are pririties that were nt mentined at the first meeting. New species identified included: tadflax, spurge flax, bindweed, Russian knapweed, bull thistle, cmmn buglss, annual buglss, leafy spurge, tansy ragwrt, and puncturevine. Equisetum (hrse tail) was mentined as a species that culd be included n the list. The grup had a discussin abut whether r nt it is native. AARON s NOTE (pst-meeting): Accrding t the USDA Plants database, all species f equisetum are native t the PNW. The grup then discussed hw t g abut priritizing the different weed species fr implementing n the grund prjects. Aarn prpsed tw separate examples f hw ther grup have dne it. EX 1: The cmmittee rganizes each species int pririty grups based n ur wn knwledge and expertise.

4 EX 2: Based n the species current distributin in the cunty The grup decided t use a hybrid f bth. The EX 2 mdel wuld serve as a starting pint, then at the next meeting, the grup will re-evaluate and allcate species t different pririties based n lcal knwledge if there was cnsensus. Aarn nted that this exercise culd and shuld be re-dne n an annual basis. Cunty-wide mapping f invasive weeds The grup agreed that there was n need t present a map t the public in any frm n where current weeds are mapped arund the cunty. Hwever, this infrmatin is useful t cllect fr the grup t be able t crdinate CWMA and individual activities. Mst in the grup agreed that the benefit f cst-share wuld help vercme the apprehensin f private landwners reprting their weeds. It was suggested that the grup culd create generalized watch znes fr certain weeds that culd be publicly presented t help infrm landwners f weeds that have been fund in the vicinity and that they shuld be watching fr. Prblem landwners: Dale suggested that the CWMA shuld have a prtcl f what t d when a weed prblem has been identified, but the landwner des nt want t d anything abut it.

5 Suggestins included ffering help with the prblem and explaining the prblem in cmmn sense terms and/r ecnmic terms. It was suggested that the infrmatin culd be turned ver t the Weed Management Task Frce This tpic will cntinue t be discussed at a later date. MOU updates/edits/prgress Carlyn stated that the wrng authrities were cited in the beginning f the MOU. She believes the crrect authrity t cite is the Interlcal Cperative Act. Aarn will d mre research and ntify the grup f edits. Next Meeting Dates and Times: May Exact date t TBD thrugh Ddle Pl. Time will be late afternn, and lcatin TBD.
