1 Scaling Up for the Job Ahead Jan. 17th Renewable Energy Summit Will Feature Xcel Energy s Mark Stoering, Gov. Tony Evers For Immediate Release January 10, 2019 More Information: Tyler Huebner, Executive Director ext 1 tyler.huebner@renewwisconsin.org RENEW Wisconsin will hold its 8th Annual Renewable Energy Summit on Thursday, January 17th at the Monona Terrace and Convention Center in Madison, WI. Themed Scaling Up for the Job Ahead, this year s Summit will focus on the potential to grow renewable energy in the coming years and the workforce, programs, and policies needed to facilitate progress. A tipping point has come for renewable energy where the costs are now competitive for homes, businesses, governments, and utilities to switch to cleaner energy sources. This Summit will focus in on how to work together to advance these markets. The lunch keynote speaker of this event is Mark Stoering, President of Xcel Energy Wisconsin and Michigan. Xcel Energy recently announced a new commitment to cut its carbon emissions 80 percent by 2030 and achieve 100 percent carbon-free electricity across its service territory by This target represents a first for the electric power industry. Governor Tony Evers will deliver welcoming remarks, followed by a panel of Wisconsin policymakers including Chair Ellen Nowak (Wisconsin Public Service Commission), Wisconsin State Representative Mike Kuglitsch (Assembly District 84, R New Berlin and Chair of the Assembly Energy and Utilities Committee), State Senator Janet Bewley (Senate District 25, D Mason), and State Representative David Crowley (Assembly District 17, D Milwaukee).

2 Six breakout sessions will allow attendees to dive deeper into key topics including: - Utility scale solar & wind energy featuring developers and communications experts Biogas opportunities featuring farmer, biodigesters operator and two companies leading the way on pipeline gas injection technologies and markets Local Governments Leading the Way including representatives from Waukesha, Eau Claire, and Madison Making Clean Energy an Environmental Win, featuring a bipartisan panel of experts Battery storage featuring practitioners and policy experts Electric vehicles featuring local government, business, and contractors working to deploy clean-operating electric vehicles The closing plenary panel will dive into how utilities, renewable energy developers, and our education and training programs need to, and can work together to, scale up to make the potential renewable energy increase a reality. It will feature Cari Anne Renlund of Madison Gas & Electric, Beth Soholt of Clean Grid Alliance, Amy Heart of Sunrun, and Ken Walz of Madison College.
