Faster, Cheaper, Safer Remediation & Prevention Solutions September 2011 Spill Green permanently traps oils, fuels and acids for safe and economic disposal

Spill Green products are eco-friendly, non-toxic, non-hazardous, noncorrosive and can be used in all weather & temperature conditions Spill Green products are listed on Canada s Domestic Substances List Spill Green LS is Environment Canada and EPA listed for use on water Spill Green bi-products are safe to dispose and may be recycled

Solutions Safety Quickly mitigate hazards & reduce risks associated with deployment, waste handling & disposal. Cost Reduction - Significantly reduce logistic costs in residue disposal compared to traditional methods. Residue Reduction - Decrease amount of residue & bi-products by 10-15x. Bi-products are non-leaching, non-flammable, non-toxic. Improved Economics & Performance Meet or exceed regulatory requirements Environment Canada and EPA listed. Broader Spectrum of Utility Use on a broad range of media (surfaces, soils, water, etc.) & hazardous chemicals (more than competing technologies). * All wastes, including hazardous wastes, must be properly disposed in accordance with federal, state/provincial and local laws.

Responsible Solutions Our patented technologies deliver effective new solutions for a wide range of hazardous spills. Old strategies such as dispersants, adsorption materials that can leach or be squeezed to release spill material & bio products that require specific temperature and oxygen levels are not always effective under new environmental standards. Spill Green products are positioned as key tools in your toolbox of spill preparedness. Spill Green delivers options to effectively and safely manage a wide range of spill materials & site conditions.

Responsible Solutions Spill Prevention vessels, oil rigs, pipelines & transportation to utilize spill kits. Like smoke detectors or seat belts, hazards & damage are mitigated immediately following the incident, before the responders arrive. Neutralize Hazards when hazards are neutralized, adverse effects on the environment, water, animals above and below water surface, responders etc are exponentially minimized. Activities are no longer focused on toxic/hazardous recovery. Metrics of Success we believe strategies that demonstrate improved safety, faster response, generate non-hazardous biproducts and reduced costs need to be established as Requirements in the decision-making process. Green Procurement products & procedures used by or purchased by government agencies & affiliates receive higher priority or status if they meet/exceed environmental/safety criteria.

Products Spill Green LS Use on Hard Surfaces (HS) and Soils for fuel, oil and other hydrocarbons, antifreeze and solvents Spill Green LS Use on pooled Liquid Spills (LS) of fuel, oil and other hydrocarbons on water or land Spill Green LS For Acid Neutralization (AN) & clean-up of acid spills & residue from acidic products

LS For pooled spills of fuel & oil on land or water Non-leaching, Non-flammable biproduct Floats indefinitely before and after deployed or until recovered Environment Canada & EPA listed Food Grade Polymer All temperature conditions Bi-product may be recycled

LS Use exact amount for any size spill in all weather conditions Non-leaching, non-toxic, nonflammable Improved staff safety Non-hazardous bi-product Less $ s to dispose compared to conventional products Patented, Exclusive Can be used on leading edge of spill to form a mechanical boom Quick response

LS Patented Technology Spill Green LS is a food grade SEEPS tri-block granular copolymer that once broadcast over a spill, rapidly absorbs the hydrocarbon in minutes as plasticization of the elastomer occurs. Hydrocarbons and other non-polar contaminants become microencapsulated on a molecular level in a nonleachable, non-reactive, copolymer matrix. The resultant bi-product may simply be thrown out*, recycled or burned as a bulk fuel. Marvel Mystery Oil is a registered trademark of Turtle Wax, Inc. * All wastes, including hazardous wastes, must be properly disposed in accordance with federal, state/provincial and local laws.

LS Diesel Spill on Water Two quarts diesel fuel spilled on edge of pond. Spill was contained by boom. Spill Green LS was distributed over the spill and allowed time to microencapsulate (approx 20 minutes). NOTE 1: Booms can be made from Spill Green LS at your location as a secondary product. * All wastes, including hazardous wastes, must be properly disposed in accordance with federal, state/provincial and local laws.

LS Diesel Spill on Water The resultant mat was folded and easily removed from the surface of the water. Bi-product can be used as bulk fuel. Where facilities exist, can be recycled into new products. NOTE 2: Waiting longer than 20 minutes before recovering the LS bi-product allows the LS to produce a more complete and ridged residue making it easier to recover. In the pictures associated with this document about 45 minutes passed and the resulting residue was like a blanket that could be pulled along the surface of the water and was folded up like a blanket. * All wastes, including hazardous wastes, must be properly disposed in accordance with federal, state/provincial and local laws.

LS Pooled Crude on Gravel Spill Green LS can be used on pooled hydrocarbon liquids, on any surface. The pictures show how pooled crude oil on gravel can be solidified by adding LS and waiting for the LS to perform. If the gravel/aggregate if very fine in texture, the LS residue solid will have some of the gravel/aggregate attached to the residue. Spill Green LS can be used any where pooled hydrocarbon liquids are present.

Portable Self-contained & powered Propels LS product with air or water Up to 100 lbs/minute All temperatures Deploy from ships/rigs Immediate response Simple to use Ideal for spills of any size Accurate, efficient

LS Used as an Active Barrier Illustration 1. Place a layer of sand in the bottom of a cup. 2. Place a.5-1cm of Spill Green LS on top of the sand. 3. Place another layer of sand on top of the Spill Green LS. 4. Add any amount of oil or hydrocarbons on top of the sand. The picture demonstrates how Spill Green LS can be used as a barrier to further soil/sand/aggregate contamination. NOTE: the oil flows through the top layer of sand but stops when it hits the LS. Also NOTE: after 24 hours the hydrocarbon will not penetrate the Spill Green LS layer.

HS Contaminants such as oil, gasoline or diesel are easily remediated from hard surfaces resulting in a non-hazardous, environmentally friendly solid residue that can simply and easily be recovered for easy disposal or left on-site. Spill Green HS can be mixed with contaminated soils to achieve excellent stabilization & may be left in situ. Effective clean-up of shorelines, Brownfields, roadways, parking lots, job sites, forest floors, machinery & equipment and contaminated soils.

HS Through a patented micro-encapsulation process, the hazardous characteristics of the waste such as ignitability, corrosivity, reactivity, and toxicity are quickly eliminated. HS is a two-part solution that rapidly desorbs, emulsifies & binds spilled materials into a solid, inert and stable amorphous silica (sand) residue. HS is available in various sized containers & can utilize a simple hand pump sprayer or industrial power sprayers for commercial, ground & pavement clean up.

HS How it works A sample of 10W-30 motor oil on cement Step 1 HS added Brushed to emulsify Step 2 HS added Brushed to Microencapsulate Brushed into dustpan Sheen & oily residue is removed

HS Case Studies Spill Green HS deployed on aggregate in a crude oil tank battery The pictures in this grouping show a demonstration in the staked area being cleaned up or remediated with the HS product. An initial application of HS Step One followed by an application of HS Step Two in the demo area Because the aggregate was saturated to about 15cm, the area was raked to expose the remaining untreated aggregate. A second application of both HS Step One & Two product was applied. This final picture shows the remediated or cleaned aggregate. Note: The aggregate will require cleaning again should the treated aggregate be covered again with oil. Also, note that since the product is silica, the residue will always take on some of the colour of the contaminate it is encapsulating.

Case Studies HS Hydraulic Oil Spill on Roadway In March, 2007, a large truck accidentally released 30+ gallons of hydraulic oil along approximately 125 meters of roadway. The roadway was slick and unsafe for use. Taking about twenty minutes, approximately 30 gallons of each of the Step 1 and Step 2 HS product was sprayed onto the spill area. By the time the length of the spill was sprayed, the patented technology had encapsulated the hydraulic oil and was dry where the application began. The resultant residue was swept with a Bobcat sweeper, resulting in approximately one-half of one 55 gallon barrel of waste. The environmental contractor estimated that 30 to 40 bags (40 lb bags) of clay absorbent would have normally been used resulting in seven to eight barrels of waste. Spill Green HS remediated and encapsulated the hydraulic oil leaving the road surface dry, eliminating the street safety hazard and leaving no hydrocarbon odour.
