9 Why CCS? Emissions of GHGs continues to increase The world needs energy and fossil fuels continues to dominate the energy-mix. CCS is the only available technology that enables us to reduce emissions from the production and use of fossil fuels. IEA Technology Perspectives,

11 The 1 st part of the 5 th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - re-emphasized the urgent need of enabling a global transition to clean energy systems. According to IEA Every year that passes, scientific evidence for anthropogenic climate change increases, yet action to transform the way we produce and consume energy is slow. Energy accounts for twothirds of global greenhouse gas emissions and as such its role is central in tackling climate change.

12 Goals of CCS-M To enable government organizations in the CCOP member countries to provide a high level overview of the potential for largescale CO 2 storage.

21 The CCS-M Guidelines will reflect the CCOP Member Countries consensus on the methodologies to be adopted.

22 Summary CCS-M will help push for the implementation of CCS in the CCOP countries. CCS-M s implementation is via case studies which has proven to be an effective capacity building strategy in CCOP. The CCS-M Guidelines is aligned to international standards and will be available to all Member Countries.
