3 We take something that initially sounds very far-fetched and make it real: We heat with ice and cool with water, as water contains a large amount of stored energy that we can utilise. Why do we do it? There are many reasons: Because it protects our environment. Because it is efficient. Because it is easy on your wallet. Because it looks good. And because it simply feels good. The Naturwärmespeicher is an ecological and efficient heat source for brine heat pumps. As open water, it simultaneously serves as a design element for your outdoor amenities. It generally does not require approval and is self-contained. The Naturwärmespeicher is therefore ideal for the environmentally-friendly heating and cooling of property, including in sensitive regions such as water protection areas. Two prizes won by one of our first customers confirm this for us: the Naturwärmespeicher brings innovative energy generation and the good design of outdoor areas together. That s what modern heating and cooling is about. 3

4 THE SUCCESSFUL COMBINATION The Naturwärmespeicher absorbs energy from the ambient air and sunlight. This energy is temporarily stored in the device and then extremely economically converted into heat or cold. The efficiency and dimensioning of the system technology is determined by the indoor and outdoor temperatures. The Naturwärmespeicher consists of two-metre deep water in a round or rectangular design. An air heat exchanger floats in the water. It provides the connection to the outside air. Air is constantly drawn in at the edge of the device and then discharged in the middle by a particularly quiet fan. This warms the water, with which the heat pump in the building is heated. In winter, the device turns off the air flow from certain temperatures and extracts further energy from the water until the phase transition occurs. The water ices over. As soon as the thermometer rises above 0 C again, the ice melts and the store recharges itself. This process is part of the principle and often occurs in winter. The heating system that can also cool The cooling function simply reverses the principle: the air heat exchanger introduces the cool of night to the water so that cooling can take place during the day. The week storage then acts as a large natural cold storage. It can produce cooling energy for the next day around the clock and, above all, completely flexibly. The Naturwärmespeicher is operated by speed-regulated heat pumps. 4

6 Efficiency class A +++ even in cooling mode Yes, you read that right: even air-conditioning systems become economically interesting again with the Naturwärmespeicher. But that is not the only thing that speaks in favour of a Naturwärmespeicher. > Depending on the device type, the payback period is between 6 and 15 years. > For most countries special grants apply for the installation of eco-friendly heating and cooling systems. 7 A COMPACT SYSTEM FOR HEATING AND COO 1 litre of water that is cooled from 80 C to 0 C releases exactly the same amount of energy as cold water at 0 C that freezes to ice. The Naturwärmespeicher has an installation depth of around two metres, although only 5 cm of water can be seen at the surface. The rest is below the floating module. This makes the device childproof. The Naturwärmespeicher can be stepped on and even played on. With few active components, the system impresses thanks to its compactness. Installation is also kept deliberately simple: A round Naturwärmespeicher is delivered by lorry. A mobile crane lifts the device into a prepared excavation pit where it is encased in concrete. Your heating engineer connects the pipes that lead from the Naturwärmespeicher to the utility room. Commissioning is then handled by our service team or a qualified trade partner. EFFICIENCY IS DECISIVE Seasonal performance factor in heating mode in cooling mode 6 10 Under the correct design conditions in terms of climate and building data, a model system with a modern speed-regulated brine heat pump achieves these values. To measure efficiency, we are collaborating with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE). The researchers at the ISE subject the Naturwärmespeicher to intensive tests in the environmental chamber and carry out extensive model calculations.

8 LING Upper zone Powerfroster: The small and responsive day storage is a childproof water surface with ice formation and solar input functions. Middle zone air tank: The air heat exchanger is equipped with a particularly powerful fan. This specially developed super-silent fan is considerably quieter than comparable devices. Lower zone water tank: The week storage is the Naturwärmespeicher s invisible storage chamber. Block ice forms there so that the heating system is not even affected by several days below 0 C. 8

9 As individual as your building project The Naturwärmespeicher can be constructed as an oblong or round body of water according to the owner s requirements. 10 SMART AIR CONDITIONING SOLUTIONS FOR RESIDENTIAL BUILDING CONSTRUCTION Maximum efficiency guarantees economical and ecological air conditioning We make use of active and passive cooling with the Naturwärmespeicher: we use the water of the Naturwärmespeicher as a cold storage; we dissipate the waste heat of the building through the air heat exchanger. The image shows a project of a 4,000 m 2 office space. It is heated and air-conditioned with six modules. The Naturwärmespeicher is the most cost-effective heating and air conditioning system for this building project. Want to know the figures? Of course: Our data is based on a combination of what is both technically possible and economically viable. In mathematical terms, a Naturwärmespeicher with this dimensioning has a cooling capacity of 6,000 kwh. With a storage time of eight hours per night, 1,000 kwh of highly economically usable cooling energy are accumulated, which the building can flexibly retrieve during the day. If energy is stored for several days (e.g. during the weekend), the economically available cooling capacity is up to four times higher, reaching approximately 4,000 kwh. Then, the ice store can be used as an element in a smart grid. 10

13 We bring the cool of night to the daytime A large number of people, computers, printers and other technical devices in small rooms everyone is familiar with this: In commercial construction, the challenge of cooling properties is greater than the challenge of heating them. The energetic efficiency of air conditioning systems is often a particular headache in large tenders. This is where the Naturwärmespeicher comes in: depending on the passive cooling share, it can achieve a SEER rating of Its high cooling performance, combined with the low power of the heat pumps, sets planners hearts on fire. 13

Conventional energy sources will therefore be depleted within a few decades. Franz Alt We accept this challenge and place renewable energy at the core of our business. In Gaildorf in Baden-Württemberg, the world s first water battery is coming into being; a powerful short-term storage system that can absorb surplus power from the grid and release it again as required. It is a combination of a wind park and a pumped storage plant that can also be equipped with a Naturwärmespeicher: environmentally-friendly cogeneration of heat and power through and through. The elimination of fossil energy means that renewables must be at the centre of our daily lives. The smartest possible use of green power is becoming the driver of our social development. But it can only succeed if we collectively consume as little power as possible and use it in the most efficient manner possible. And that is exactly where we come in. 17

19 Our solutions have one thing in common: they focus on renewable energy efficient, economical and with low space consumption. For this reason, we focus on wind and the sun.
