BioCups MADE FROM PLANTS NOT OIL Whenever possible we encourage consumers to bring their own mugs, we do however understand that this is not always practical and for the safest, most hygienic and sustainable option choose BioCups and Lids from BioPak. Using Bioplastic for our cup lining and lids saves our valuable fossil fuel resources, it also lowers our CO2 footprint by 75% compared to conventional plastics. Paper is sourced from certified managed plantations, with cup coating and lids made from Ingeo an ingenious bioplastic made from plants not oil. Produced in a facility certified compliant to international environmental standards and ethical and fair labour practices. Our cups and lids are commercially compostable where facilities exist. The cups are recyclable in a growing number of locations. Our cup and lids are certified carbon neutral by The Carbon Reduction Institute with all CO2 emissions from cradle-to-grave accounted for and offset through the purchase of carbon credits. Landfills are not designed to breakdown trash, only to bury it. When organic matter biodegrades in landfill it releases harmful methane gas (84 times more potent than CO2). Bioplastic will not biodegrade in landfill which is a good thing! Did you know that Australia and New Zealand consume more than 1.2 Billion paper cups every year? 1% of profits from the purchase of these products is donated to Rainforest Rescue for the restoration and regeneration of rainforest. By converting all cups in Australia and NZ from PE to PLA bioplastic lining we could save 948 tons of CO2 emissions a year. Equivalent to 5,990,000 km travelled, 669,000 litres saved or 205 cars off the road. By converting all lids from PS to PLA bioplastic lids we could save 9,500 tons of CO2 emissions a year. Equivalent to 60,100,000 km travelled, 5,170,000 litres saved or 2,060 cars off the road. By using Ingeo PLA to produce our cups and lids reduces our Energy Greenhouse gases 58 % 81 % If all cups in Australia and NZ were BioCups we could save 600 tons of plastic a year - and save 1 million litres of oil.

BioPAK PRODUCTS END OF LIFE OPTIONS Compostable vs. Biodegradable A compostable item is capable of undergoing biological decomposition in a compost site. Certification requirements: Completely biodegrade within 120 days Leave a nutrient rich humus with no toxicity The main difference between biodegradable and compostable is the latter breaks down within one to four months into compost, which provides valuable nutrients to the soil. Biodegradable products disintegrate into smaller pieces and no timeframe is specified, and the fragments could be toxic. Certified compostable products, will biodegrade in commercial composting facilities at a specified rate (usually 120 days or less). Biodegradable Biodegradable is often used by marketers to mislead consumers about the environmental benefit of their products Technically, biodegradable refers to anything that breaks into smaller and smaller pieces until microorganisms can consume it. Unlike compostable products, there are no industry standards for what is and isn t considered biodegradable. Landfill Landfills are not designed to break down trash, only to bury it. The trash in a landfill will remain unchanged for a very long time. When organic products such as paper and food do begin to biodegrade in a landfill, they release methane. A greenhouse gas 84 times more potent than CO2.

WHAT s IT MADE OF? Responsibly sourced paper Responsible sourcing encourages environmentally sound forestry, helps establish sustainable material flows and preserves valuable resources for future generations. Well-managed forests provide clean air and water, maintain soil quality, preserve biodiversity and habitats, and sequester CO2, among many other ecosystem services. At BioPak we are committed to only using certified raw materials from responsible sources with either SFI, PEFC or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC ) certification, ensuring that all BioPak paper cups are manufactured from materials sourced from sustainably-managed forests. Paper packaging can be recycled. We are working independently and through industry initiatives to increase recycling of our paper foodservice packaging products. Beneficial bioplastic Bioplastic products are made from plant-based resins derived from plant starch such as tapioca and corn. Instead of choosing petroleum-based plastics that are toxic and cause environmental pollution, consumers can choose products made from compostable, renewable bioplastics. PLA bioplastic is completely stable in landfill. When thinking about environmental impact, it s important to recognise that the true ecoadvantage starts at the beginning. By design, using Ingeo PLA results in 75% less greenhouse gases than using oil-based PET or PS plastic even if both end up in a landfill. Bioplastic foodservice packaging is compostable in a commercial compost facility. Composting enhances soils, prevents erosion and reduces water usage. Currently only a handful of composters accept our packaging. However, as the composting infrastructure grows across the nation, so will the ability to compost foodservice packaging. Sweet sugarcane pulp We use sugarcane pulp (bagasse) for our range of takeaway containers, plates and bowls. Bagasse is by-product which is left after the juice has been extracted from the sugarcane. Sugarcane is rapidly renewable making it ideal for single use disposables. Our bagasse products will biodegrade in a home compost and worm farm. When bagasse products degrade, they provide natural ingredients back to the environment since they are made from natural, organic and renewable materials. Bagasse products are perfect alternatives to petroleum-based styrofoam and plastic products which take thousands of years to degrade.

Paper Cups & Bowls Recyclable in some local councils Refer to BioCups are Recyclable PDF Compostable in a commercial compost facility: BioCups will completely biodegrade in a commercial compost facility within 120 days. Refer to Compost Facilities PDF Each tonne of paper that is recycled saves: almost 13 trees, 2.5 barrels of oil, 4100 kwh of electricity, 4 cubic metres of land landfill and 31, 780 litres of water. By recycling paper and cardboard 51% of the environmental impact of using virgin material can be saved. BIOPLASTIC Products Clear Cups, PLA Lids, Clear Bowls, Salad Bowls, ByoCups & PLA Cutlery Compostable in a commercial compost facility: These products will completely biodegrade in a commercial compost facility within 120 days. If no compost facilities are available in your area and these products end up in landfill, they will remain inert this is preferred as any products that biodegrade in landfill release methane gas which is 80 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than CO2. SugarCane Pulp Products Compostable in a commercial compost facility: These products will completely biodegrade in a commercial compost facility within 120 days. Wood Cutlery Compostable: These products will completely biodegrade at the same rate as other woody organic matter in a compost facility.

PSM Cutlery (70% Bioplastic) This product range can only be sent to landfill. Cup Carrier Trays Recyclable along with cardboard Compostable at home or in a commercial compost facility. Napkins Compostable: These products will completely biodegrade in any compost environment. Bioplastic Bags Compostable: These products will completely biodegrade in any compost environment.
