1 MEMO Date: July 4, 208 Pages: 3 CCTA File: 3583 To: Ted Kruska CCTA Via: From: Subject: Laura Goetz & Amanda Kellett Concession 7 Culvert Replacement Hydraulic Analysis C.C. Tatham & Associates Ltd. (CCTA) has completed a hydraulic analysis to determine an adequate size for the culvert replacement drainage ditch crossing of Concession 7, west of Sideroad 0, in Ramara Township. The primary objective of this design brief is to determine if the installation of a new culvert of the same size as the existing will convey the required 25-year storm flow, with no adverse effects. Background Information The existing crossing consists of a 2400 x 500 mm open bottom concrete box culvert. The contributing drainage area to this crossing is ha, as determined by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Ontario Flow Assessment Tool (OFAT). A schematic of the drainage area is provided as Figure. The crossing is located on Concession 7, which is classified as a Rural Arterial Collector Road by the Township. The existing culvert has a span of less than 6 m, and therefore should be able to convey the 25-year storm, as per the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) Design Flood Criteria, Directive B-00. Hydraulic Analysis A hydrologic model was developed using Visual OTTHYMO (VO5) hydrologic modelling software to determine the peak flows contributing to the crossing. The 4-hour Chicago (CHI) and 24-hour SCS design storm distributions for Orillia were modelled to evaluate the existing peak flows at the crossing. A summary of the results from this analysis are provided in Table, while detailed results are appended.
