Pr oject Over view Aquistore is an independent research and monitoring project to which intends to demonstrate that storing liquid carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) deep underground (in a brine and sandstone water formation), is a safe, workable solution to reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs). Serve as a demonstration site for cutting edge CO 2 measurement, monitoring, and verification (MMV) technologies. Help develop the best methods & technologies to monitor and track CO 2. Involve research institutions, policy makers, industry, and public. 3

Aquistore will serve as the storage site for the world s first commercial post-combustion CO 2 capture, transportation, utilization, and storage project from a coal fired electrical generating facility.

& Sa s kpower Aquistore is providing buffer storage to a commercial CO 2 capture plant and active oilfield EOR operations. A variation in injection rates may result in operating challenges but should be expected in any full chain CCS operation. 6

Engagement and out r each Aquistore established a strategic communications plan in The communications program was designed to focus on public engagement and stakeholder education. 8

Regional cont ext : Sas kat chewan Within Canada, Saskatchewan has the highest per capita CO 2 emissions nearing 73 tns per person. While the population is small, the emissions per person are high. Upwards of 70% of Saskatchewan s electricity is generated by combustion plants.

Regional Cont ext : est evan The Estevan area has extensive economic and social ties to the power plant and the oil and gas industry. A strong technological knowledge-base exists. SaskPower is the largest employer in Estevan. There is support for CCS and CO 2 injection (which is seen as a technology that will prolong the economic viability of the power plant) 10

EXTERNAL ENGAGEMENT 12

Kit chen Tabl e Dis cuss ions Aquistore s project team held a series of kitchen table discussions. The team visited each household and met with local stakeholders to discuss concerns and answer questions. 13

Local stakehol der engagement The project team presented to local authorities in the community of Estevan. 14

Open h o u s e In April 2012, the project hosted its first open house. Heavily advertised, over 75 interested citizens and local dignitaries attended this event and learned about the project. Feedback survey. 15

Cha mber of commer ce In collaboration with the first Open House, a meeting with local business and community leaders was held. Experts presented, Q and A session. Feedback survey. 16

Gr o u n d- Br eaking Event Featured a project tour focused on the integrated aspect of Aquistore including a visit to Boundary Dam, hands-on presentations focused on site geology, and seismic and monitoring techniques, as well as a tour of the drilling rig. 17

t our s Over the summer and fall of 2012, Aquistore hosted over 225+ individuals for site tours. Corporate boards, students, government officials, federal representatives, US DOE, geologists, locals 18

Fa r m To u r s As a follow up, site tours and a second engagement session was offered to local land owners. Project Managers toured local families, answered questions, provided updated information. 19
