Company Profile Technology & Markets Energy Harvesting Wireless Sensors World Leader in self powered wireless Patented, Mature, Award winning technology Siemens spin-off founded in 2001 Developed in efficiency-leading Germany Supply wireless and battery free capabilities to manufacturers Wireless Standard for Sustainable Buildings EnOcean for Energy-efficiency & Flexibility in Sustainable Buildings Over 125 OEMs offering end-products Over 800 Interoperable products Over 200,000 buildings deployed BACnet ready EnOcean GmbH > Company Presentation > 31-Oct-11 Page 2
How do we Save Energy? Lighting: Automatic lights off when the space is Vacant, turn the lights down or off when the sun is supplying plenty of light. We use the same light we are measuring to power the sensors. HVAC: Automatically set back the HVAC when the room or building is Vacant Neither option requires a large complex, building-wide system to achieve these energy savings Page 3
What current devices does this replace? Our wireless and battery free technology is intended to drop into an existing building, very similar to wired devices, but faster and easier. Replacing the new wire and the associated labor and tenant disruption currently required to add controls Replaces the maintenance and failures linked to battery powered systems (dead batteries negate any energy savings) Estimated energy savings vary, average = ~30% Page 4
Current Installations? UC Santa Cruz Science Library The library project, which reduced the building's electricity usage 40 percent, garnered the Best Practice Lighting Award at the 2011 California Higher Education Sustainability Conference in July. With the estimated annual savings of $48,000 from using less electricity, the project should pay for itself in approximately three years. ---Mercury News August 2011 Winner: Best Practice CAHESC July 2011 Wireless Innovation Project 2011 USGBC Greenbuild, October 2011 by the EnOcean Alliance Page 5
Market Potential? Market Barriers? European countries are seeing high volume in retrofits According to the DOE, 82% of buildings lack automated controls, making this a large potential Market Barriers: Knowledge of product availability Installer education, awareness Building owner capital expense Page 6
Current Status? Non-energy benefits? Current Status Installed in over 200,000 buildings worldwide Millions of units delivered, Proven in the field for over 10 years. Non-Energy Benefits: Bulbs that are on less, last longer (reducing costs) HVAC equipment that runs less, needs less maintenance (reducing costs) Efficient buildings have higher valuation and rental income. Page 7
Demand Response Capabilities? Wireless makes DR simple With the addition of a TCP/IP gateway we can perform Demand Response actions. Send the wireless command to dim or turn off/setback etc. Varying levels of DR can be pre-set Gateways are available in several protocols, by several manufacturers Published profiles make these devices ready for the future as DR becomes more widespread Uses existing fixtures and controls Page 8
Simple Or Advanced. Simple in room control, typically installed in minutes. Switch Occupancy Sensor Photo Sensor Master Switch Thermostat Also hears these signals Page 9
Simple System Example Nestle Purina Headquarters St Louis MO. Problem- No light switches Controlled by a clock Asbestos ceilings Solution- Wireless Occupancy sensor on the wall Added a relay to existing fixture New wireless light switch near the door No new wires No new batteries Fast and simple to implement Asbestos not Disturbed Supplied by Leviton
Simple System Example: next step up Glumac Engineering office. Office of the Future, Irvine CA Tenant improvement Goals Beat California Title 24 by 40% Solution 0.3 W per SF, beating Title 24 by 75% Self-powered, wireless Occupancy sensors (some wired) Self-powered, wireless Temperature sensors Tambient fixtures controlled by Daylight levels and occupancy Occupant light switches without wires/batteries BACnet communication enabled (monitor only mode) Awaiting LEED platinum
Advanced: Centralized Control Control Capabilities Using a PC / Building Automation System, signals can be broadcast throughout a facility Examples: Timers, Holiday schedule, Outdoor lights, Demand Response Uses the same equipment as the simple examples in previous slides. Central Control Centralized Command Signals PC Network (TCP/MSTP) EnOcean Gateway Centralized Commands, forwarded to Controllers, then to Fixtures Sensors and switches feed in environmental input or occupant commands Page 12
Summary Energy Harvesting Wireless Devices Can be Simple or Advanced Moves easily from simple to advanced by adding components, not replacing what you just installed last year. Installs very quickly Perfect for existing building stock Immediate energy savings No battery means incentivized savings will remain in the future. Dead batteries delete the savings. No new wires Award winning technology Over 800 products available (multi sourcing) Products available today to local electricians via supply houses or can be custom ordered EnOcean GmbH > Company Presentation > 31-Oct-11 Page 13
