NOVOZYMES AND BETA RENEWABLES DEPLOY WORLD CLASS CELLULOSIC ETHANOL TECHNOLOGY TO MARKET FROM BIOMASS TO BIOENERGY BIO WORLD CONGRESS, PHILADELPHIA, 13 MAY 2014 Thomas Grotkjær Biomass Conversion, Business Development

SO FAR SO GOOD IN CELLULOSIC ETHANOL: BETA RENEWABLES OPERATES A COMMERCIAL PLANT Beta Renewables own the world s first operational commercial scale plant, Crescentino, Italy Novozymes acquired a 10% equity stake in Beta Renewables in 2012 Max. production capacity: 40 KT/yr (13 million gallons per year) Feedstock: Straw and energy crops (giant reed) Partnership is designed to de-risk technology and operations by performance and cost guarantees Lignin provides power for plant, no production of industrial wastewater

AGENDA Novozymes Cellulosic Enzymes Partnership Beyond? Appendix Basic concepts of enzymes Contact information

NOVOZYMES (NZ) IS THE WORLD MARKET LEADER IN INDUSTRIAL ENZYMES AND MICROORGANISMS NZ snapshots Sales: ~ 1.5 billion Main production sites (written) & office country locations (colored) 14% of revenue invested in R&D Canada UK Denmark Enzymes constitute > 90% of turnover > 6,000 employees USA India China > 6,500 granted patents & pending patent applications Brazil Argentina More than 700 products used in 130 different countries in > 30 different industries Listed on the Nasdaq OMX, Nordic stock exchange Was founded almost 100 years ago and The Global 100 List rank us to be around for another 100 years 50% market share in supplies of enzymes for industrial use

NOVOZYMES IS AN R&D FOCUSED BIOTECH PLAYER DRIVING INNOVATION WITH PARTNERS 9 industries Starch-based ethanol (1G) Advanced bio-innovation solutions that set revolutionary standards for renewable energy Cellulosic ethanol (2G) Biodiesel Biogas

NOVOZYMES PROVIDES THE ENZYMES WITH A HOLISTIC AND AN INTEGRATED APPROACH Acid/alkaline/ steam Enzymes Yeast Ag./ forestry residues/ energy crops

NOVOZYMES OFFER THE HIGHEST ETHANOL YIELDS AT COMPETITIVE PRICES Enzyme Use Cost performance Standardization Customization Enzymes will be developed to fit Specific cellulosic technology and processes Feedstock variability Etc Years Cellic CTec Cellic CTec2 Cellic CTec3

THE PARTNERSHIP WITH BETA RENEWABLES PROVIDE STRONG COMPLEMENTARY EXPERTISE Largest R&D undertaking Investment approx. 130 million 2G pilot plants in Brazil, US, China, and Europe testing NZ enzymes Customers buy commercial volumes of Cellic CTec for the first 2G demonstration plants 90 million NZ investment in Beta World s first cellulosic ethanol plant in Crescentino, Italy Foundation Pilot stage Demo stage Commercial stage

TOGETHER BETA RENEWABLES AND NOVOZYMES HAVE CAPABILITIES TO TAKE PROJECTS TO REALIZATION Enable Deploy Empower Development Business model with license and joint guarantees Engineering Construction Start-up Operations Project feasibility study and investment estimates Qualify feedstock in pilot plant Optimize processes and enzymes for feedstock Support in the development of a biomass supply chain Support in financing Basic engineering package Qualify EPC contractor Permitting support and procurement of critical equipment Support in the construction of the plant and deployment Start-up and training Support in finding product off-takers Ensure joint performance guarantees hold Provide ongoing technical support Supply of enzymes

TODAY, BETA RENEWABLES AND NOVOZYMES CAN DEPLOY CELLULOSIC ETHANOL GLOBALLY Novozymes enzyme production and other key sites BR/Chemtex PROESA sites

THERE ARE STILL PLENTY OF WORK TO DO IN ORDER TO IMPROVE COMPETITIVENESS Focus areas of Novozymes: Lignocellulosic feedstock to advanced biofuels, biochemicals, & biomaterials Utilization of the full potential of forestry biomass Releasing sustainable technologies to convert waste into valuable products Backwards integrating energy, pulp and chemical biorefineries R&D Projects Demonstration Projects Flagship Projects Supporting Projects

CONVERSION OF BIOMASS OPENS UP FOR A WIDE ARRAY OF APPLICATIONS BUT NOT TOMORROW Sugarcane bagasse Corn stover Energy cane Wheat straw Wood chips Cellulose Hemicellulose Lignin Ethanol Cooking gel Electricity Textiles Diapers Plastics Detergents

CONCLUDING REMARKS Novozymes is an R&D focused biotech player driving innovation in collaboration with ambitious partners Beta Renewables and Novozymes partner to develop a unique concept and succeed in cellulosic ethanol State-of-the art enzymes Commercial scale production of cellulosic ethanol Vision of process integration and continues improvement Industrial biotechnology (biobased fuels and chemicals) should demonstrate commercial feasibility rather than looking for technical innovation

APPENDIX

ENZYMES ARE BIO-CATALYSTS FOR CHEMICAL PROCESSES Enzymes are proteins produced by living organisms e.g. fungi/ bacteria and i.e. they are tools of nature. They can cut biological materials into smaller pieces: Enzyme Substrate Products Every enzyme has one specific function Enzymes are environmentally friendly Enzymes are fully biodegradable

ENZYMES ENABLE THE RELEASE OF SUGARS FROM COMPLEX PLANT STRUCTURES (LIGNOCELLULOSE) USED IN 2G ETHANOL PRODUCTION Lignocellulose structure Cellulose Hemicellulose Xylose (C5 sugar) Glucose (C6 sugar) Enzymes Enzymes are key to effective and cost efficient ethanol production, releasing C5 and C6 sugars from the biomass C5 and C6 sugars are the main inputs to producing cellulosic ethanol During the fermentation process, yeasts convert the sugars into ethanol Lignin is typically used for generating steam and power Lignin

OPTIMIZATION OF ENZYME PERFORMANCE AND KEY PROCESS PARAMETERS DECREASE PRODUCTION COST Pretreatment severity Enzyme dosing Total solids loading Hydrolysis time Biomass to sugar conversion Process optimized to get the lowest unit of ethanol cost
