39 Why we expect Volume reduction: Standard extended detention basins disappear about a third of the volume routed through them. The Seattle Street Edge Alternative Project showed a 98% reduction in runoff volume (and those swales have impervious liners!)

46 Infiltration Rates The best we can do??? The Geotechnical Engineer Recommended 2 inches/hour

47 Porous Pavement Surprise finding The pavement is not the limiting factor for the water quality event. Rates for porous pavements are often documented at hundreds of inches per hour. Long term studies often show inch/hour rates in double figures. Paver systems appear credible for long term rates at least 5 inches per hour. Based on the math, Porous Pavement BMP footprint sizing becomes the same as Infiltration Trenches

65 Take Away Points This project is unique, purpose-built for monitoring We will collect data on both quality and quantity, before and after treatment We believe that LID features provide substantial volume reduction. We hope to quantify this. Many issues related to LID site design are site specific and require thought and judgment a standard drawing may not be adequate Test data will be made publicly available accessible through the District s website Because the District site is used for training, these features will be available to the public for tours Questions?
