At the very beginning we initiated the dialogue on climate neutral printing with printers from Germany and Switzerland. Since then this solution has turned into a well-established and comprehensive service package. We have worked intensively and successfully with ClimatePartner since 2007 to make carbon footprinting for print products entirely realistic. 3 climate neutral What is climate protection and how can we participate in it? What is climate neutral printing? What are recognized carbon offset projects? The objective of climate protection is to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases such as CO 2 and thus limit the anthropogenic greenhouse effect. The first step in all climate protection activities is an inventory of the amount of carbon emissions released by a company, a product, or a service. These so-called carbon footprints allow you to identify potentials for the avoidance and reduction of carbon emissions. For example, this can take place through efficiency measures and the use of renewable energy sources. By supporting carbon offset projects, you can also offset the carbon emissions that cannot be avoided in the short term. In climate neutral printing, the amount of greenhouse gas emissions caused by the production of the print product is calculated and subsequently offset using emission reduction certificates from internationally recognized carbon offset projects. The emissions caused by the substrate, the printing materials, printing, processing, and transportation are taken into account. Carbon offset projects avoid carbon emissions. For instance, a wind farm in Turkey improves the energy supply in the region without using fossil fuels such as coal and diesel and releasing carbon emissions. These are tradable CO 2 savings in the form of emission reduction certificates. The mechanism of emissions trading globally enables the promotion of sustainable development and the avoidance of CO 2 at the lowest possible cost. To this end, different types of carbon offset projects are used such as hydropower plants, biomass plants, wind farms, reforestation projects, and forest protection projects. 5 How does climate neutral printing with ClimatePartner work? You can offer climate neutral print products in three easy steps. All you need is a computer with Internet access to use the online platform. Generation of the carbon footprint of your print shop On an annual basis you enter data in our software that are relevant for determining your carbon emissions, such as heating, electricity, the vehicle fleet, and printing machinery. The result is your print shop s carbon footprint, with which you can analyze your carbon emissions. Individual carbon accounting for print orders On the basis of the carbon footprint of your company, we will create your individualized carbon calculator. By entering a few parameters, you can use it to calculate the emissions of your customer orders. We provide a standard interface that allows you to perform the carbon calculations directly in your own calculation software. Offsetting carbon emissions To offset the unavoidable emissions of your print orders, you can select a recognized carbon offset project from our extensive portfolio for example, wind power in New Caledonia or forest conservation in Kenya. Thus you can offer your customers climate neutral print products. We give you additional security: our methods and the software used to calculate and offset the emissions are certified annually by TÜV-Austria (technical inspection authority).

6 Generate climate neutral print products and market them! Labeling and transparency Every climate neutral print job is clearly documented by us with labels, ID numbers, and certificates, all of which are available online. For each order generated, you can create a customized label using our label generator. This allows you to automatically generate labels in different languages, colors, and file types. Each order is given a unique ClimatePartner-ID, with which the offset can be transparently traced. The end user scans the QR code with a smartphone or enters the ID on the website and receives information on the carbon emissions of the product and on the carbon offset projects used to offset these emissions. Marketing materials ClimatePartner will support you in marketing your climate protection activities with comprehensive marketing and sales materials: from certificates, logos, and sample texts for your website to brochures and publications. Consulting and individual training offer We can advise you by phone and on-site on how to quickly and efficiently begin using our software solution. 7 Integrated carbon accounting and offsetting Integrate our solution directly into your calculation software or your web shop Climate protection at the push of a button Our solution can be fully linked to your calculation software (ERP / MIS). Thus it is quite easy for you to offer your customers climate neutral print products. The ClimatePartner process for calculating and offsetting carbon emissions can be integrated by default through an open, platform-independent interface to third-party IT solutions, such as Print Plus, Lector, or RS Software. These solutions are characterized by a full integration of the carbon calculation and offset, meaning that the user does not have to leave the familiar working environment. We offer online print shops another solution at the push of a button. The intelligent interface of WEBSALE AG s shop system to ClimatePartner s software facilitates the calculation of the carbon emissions generated by each order. In the ordering process, customers can decide to offset the carbon emissions of their order and select one of the offered carbon offset projects that they want to support. Climate protection can thus be integrated into your business processes without additional effort. Example of a full integration Your calculation software automatically calculates the carbon emissions of a print product. In the offer, the emissions are reported together with the cost of an offset through a recognized climate protection project. If the customer opts for climate neutral production, the offset order can be made directly from the job management. The label and the certificate are provided via a link that can be forwarded directly to the customer. All of this is done automatically by ClimatePartner s interface between the calculation software and the Footprint Manager without repeating data collection.
