6 Summary from Public Input Survey as of JUNE 2016 Convenience is important curbside services are well received Education, promotion, outreach all needed and requested More opportunities to recycle more materials, more locations, more everything! Yard waste and food waste opportunities to divert more Limit impacts of landfill and reduce need NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGE 6

7 As of August 2016 How services are offered more requests for consolidation of services, either county coordinated or locally coordinated How programs are funded - responsibility of funding programs county? Local units? Convenience/accessibility with an increase in responses from the west side of the county, we saw less use of the services offered more than 20 miles away. 10 Goal Development - Process As of July 21 st, RRS received 9 responses from SWPC members directly Also compiled comments from the July meeting and following the July meeting Includes SWOT analysis priorities and aligns with public feedback survey 10

11 Goal Development - Analysis Using current plan goals as a starting point, compared new data, to identify trends, priorities and gaps. There are 37 items that make up the goals and objectives. Between all the input, all were covered at least once by SWPC members, the SWOT analysis or the public. 11

13 Goal Development - Ranking Top 3-4 or more mentions GOAL ONE: Create, implement, manage, and monitor an aggressive program to reduce the overall amount of Municipal Solid Waste ("MSW") generated per capita in Washtenaw County by 5% in the year 2005 and 10% in the year These goals will be evaluated over time, and changes made as deemed necessary by the implementation agencies Develop and/or support comprehensive programs aimed at reducing waste generation, such as source reduction, pollution prevention, ISO 14000, environmentally conscious design for the environment and recycling design for the environment. (Objective under Goal 1) GOAL TWO: Create, implement, manage and monitor an aggressive program to increase MSW diversion rates from current levels to a county average of 38% recovery by weight by the year 2005 and 45% by weight by the year

Composting (Objective under Goal 2) GOAL THREE: Develop and/or support comprehensive public education programs GOAL FOUR: Ensure the safe and efficient management of municipal solid waste. 2. Ensure the safe and environmentally sound collection, transportation, processing, on-site storage and disposal of solid waste. (Objective under Goal 4) 5. Encourage development of local ordinances and regulations that recognize the difficulties inherent in the collection and transportation of solid waste, and allow the collection of solid waste to take place in an efficient, safe and timely manner. (Objective under Goal 4) GOAL FIVE: Operate an integrated intra-county and inter-county solid waste management strategy 14
