3 INTRODUCTION Satpura Thermal Power Station is an oldest running plant in India. The 1 st installed unit (62.5 MW) completed its 42 years in the month of Oct. 09. The total installed capacity of this station is MW. The units are running with their full efficiency round the year. Many times these units are awarded for meritorious productivity by CEA. The per day coal consumption of these units is 22 thousand MT. The geographical area is surrounded by Satpura ranges in which the oldest and very known forest situated for its well known teak wood i.e. CP Teak.

7 In our country major source of electricity is fossil fuels, we are generating nearly 70% of electricity from coal. The coal utilities for this purpose of low grade having high ash content about 40% & low calorific value about 3500 kilo calories. The ash handling is the major task for these utilities. About 20% of ash go through bottom of boiler and rest through the fly ash. Therefore measurement & control on SPM (suspended particulate matter) is very essential. The ESP is serving the major role to maintain it with in limits, we are trying to achieve full efficiency of ESP.

12 STACK EMMISION MONITORING NORMS:- Govt. of India form the air (Prevention & control of Pollution) act rule 1981 and amendments. M.P. Pollution control Board issue license to all the industries which are covered under this act to fulfill the statutory requirement as per norms. The stack emission monitoring of all the units of Satpura is done by traditional / online measurement and report submitted to M.P. Pollution Board. Apart from fulfilling the regulatory requirement the stack emission measurement is essential for improving the efficiency of the Boiler, ESP etc.

13 REVISED REGULATORY NORMS:- The central pollution Board declared process emission as the major pollutant and they fix the limit of SPM in flue gas not more than 150mg per Nm3 and stack height not less than 230 meters for high capacity unit above 200MW.

14 ONLINE STACK/GAS EMMISION MONITORING:- To meet the PCB norms, in the year the online stack emission monitoring system is installed in all the 9 units of Sarni TPS, it has been installed by M/s Forbes Marshall, Pune. DCEM 2100 for SPM measurement. GCEM 4000 multi gas Insitu (non sampling) analyzer for SO X, NO X & CO measurement. These measurements are done in flue gas path after ID Fan and just before the chimney (Stack).

15 ADVANTAGE OF STACK EMISSION MONITORING SYSTEM:- Online stack emission monitoring system fulfills the norms of air pollution act 1981 & CREP (Charter for corporate responsibility for environmental protection) issue by Govt. of India. Efficiency of ESP is measured round the clock, by adjusting ESP parameters & NH3 dosing By CO measurement Quality of combustion in Boiler is improved by controlling oxygen in flue gas & it helped to control the heat rate.

17 AMMONIA DOSING SYSTEM IN FLUE GAS:- To increase the efficiency of ESP ammonia gas dosing is done in flue gas at 0.2kg/cm2 this reduces resistivity of SPM & accelerate the coagulation. The dosing can be regulated very easily by monitoring online stack emission, further ammonia dosing also increases the fertility of the ash.
