Total Organic Carbon (TOC) measurement is increasingly accepted as an excellent overall indicator of water quality. TOC measurement is becoming the method of choice for continuous screening for organic compounds, without having to test for each substance individually. Used to increase the efficiency of water/wastewater treatment, TOC analysis can reduce process costs in both industrial and municipal applications. Used as a warning of organic spills, TOC analysis can protect expensive processes and equipment in addition to monitoring for regulatory compliance. The Isco EZ TOC analyzer is your solution for on-line, continuous TOC monitoring. It is easy to use, accurate, reliable, and suitable for a variety of applications. Analysis methodology complies with EPA and ASTM standard methods for TOC determination, as well as ISO and CEN international standards. 3 Exceptional Value & Versatility The EZ TOC offers standard features and flexibility that are either unavailable or expensive options on other analyzers. In addition to being a continuous on-line process analyzer, the EZ TOC allows you to conveniently measure grab samples. For operational accuracy, more than 18 system parameters including loss of flow and leak detection are monitored on every EZ TOC. A built-in reagent timer alerts the operator of upcoming chemical requirements. Auto-calibration and cleaning ensures hands-off low maintenance operation, and is a standard feature of every EZ TOC. The advanced hydraulics system provides flexibility to allow for an unlimited number of ranges between 10 mg/l and 10,000 mg/l. 2

4 The EZ Concept The Isco EZ TOC combines proven TOC analysis methodology with simple operation and easy maintenance to produce accurate, reliable TOC measurements. The EZ TOC uses UV-promoted, persulfate oxidation to convert organic carbon compounds to CO2, which is then measured using a non-dispersive infrared detector to determine the total organic carbon in the sample stream. User friendly programming makes setup and operation of the EZ TOC simple and quick. Advanced dual gas and liquid calibration capabilities assure accurate results. Innovative design and quality Isco manufacturing provide accuracy, reliability, and easy maintenance. The EZ Operating Principle Your sample is quickly drawn into the EZ TOC by the source pump. A portion of the source pump flow is continuously sampled by a feed pump which transfers sample liquid to a scrubbing column where it is combined with dilute phosphoric acid. In the scrubbing column, inorganic carbon compounds are converted to CO2 and removed by sparging. From the scrubbing column, inorganic carbon-free sample is then pumped to a patented* UV reactor where it is combined with concentrated persulfate and carrier gas. Inside the reactor, organic carbon compounds are oxidized to CO2 by interaction of the sample with the UV light, carrier gas, and concentrated persulfate at an elevated temperature. Upon leaving the reactor, the CO2 gas stream passes through gas/liquid separation devices before entering an enhanced non-dispersive infrared detector (NDIR), which measures the CO2 for determining TOC in mg/l. Easily accessible components make routine maintenance a snap. Up to eight programmable relays can provide a remote indication of system operation and report trouble conditions. A fail-safe shutdown feature prevents damage, should a malfunction occur. The result is high on-line efficiency for your TOC measurement. The large, multi-line display makes programming quick and easy. Concise programming instructions are on the front panel. Manual inhibit buttons provide convenient overrides. Easy Programming The Isco EZ TOC sets a new standard for ease of use. On an easy-to-read backlit display, simple programming menus guide you through quick analyzer setup and operation. The backlit display allows you to monitor the operating status in low light conditions without opening the door. Three separate menus guide you through all necessary functions with clear, self-prompting instructions. The SETUP menu is used for the initial installation of your process analyzer. The CALIBRATION menu includes functions used for periodic verification of the analyzer s operations and performance. The COMMANDS menu provides routine operational command selections. 6 INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY Patented UV Reactor The EZ TOC s patented UV reactor system includes several advanced design features. An exclusive sample flow path design assures your sample is oxidized efficiently. A special sensor continuously monitors the temperature of the reaction chamber to maintain an elevated temperature (75 C), which increases the efficiency of the UV-persulfate oxidation. The single UV-lamp design greatly reduces maintenance costs. It also enhances reliability by providing positive indication of lamp failure, instead of producing inaccurate data as can occur when a single lamp fails in a multi-lamp system. Temperature sensor and circuitry maintain an elevated reactor temperature for efficient sample oxidation. Single UV-lamp maintains high efficiency reaction and reduces replacement lamp expenses. Enhanced NDIR Detector Using NDIR detection of CO2 for TOC analysis is the preferred method for complying with U.S. and International standard protocols. EZ TOC s enhanced NDIR detector eliminates the need for separate infrared sources and detectors for the sample and reference cells. This design provides a sensitive, stable, noise-free environment for accurate and reliable CO2 detection. Electronics Board Sample Cell Sample Ports IR Source Mirror 2 Chopper Wheel Motor Automatic zero and span calibration, using only the carrier gas already supplied to the analyzer. This 2-point calibration automatically compensates for any drift in the NDIR. Continuously purged reference cell means less maintenance than sealed reference cell systems. The purged reference cell also gives greater accuracy by compensating for CO2 content in the carrier gas. Kynar sample cell eliminates problems associated with corrosion and reduces maintenance. Sapphire optical windows eliminate corrosion problems associated with calcium fluoride coatings. 7 Additional Features Four separate, programmable form Type C relays can be activated on any of up to 18 parameters monitored by EZ TOC, including two alarm levels, loss of sample or gas flow, leak detection and more. Four extra relays may be added. Manual samples from remote locations are easily analyzed using the Manual Sample Valve. User-selectable and scalable 4-20 ma or 0-20 ma output RS-232 Digital Output Accessories Isco Carrier Gas Converter PA2 or PA3 Sample Filter Required where sample input contains particles larger than 200 microns.
