Passionate about fibres Stabilizing asphalt: TECHNOCEL Cellulose fibres TOPCEL Pellets
TECHNOCEL TOPCEL SMA - A Long Life Pavement leads the way Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) was developed in Germany 30 years ago. Since then it has spread throughout Europe and across the world. In Germany alone approx. 100 million square metres are applied every year. The resistance to permanent deformation on heavily trafficked roads is a result of the high content of large sized aggregates. This causes a distinct mineral aggregate distribution, hence SMA is also known as gap graded asphalt. The aggregate structure is firmly bonded together by a strong asphalt mastics consisting of sand, filler, bitumen binder and TECHNOCEL fibres. Asphalt Concrete There are no limits to the use of SMA. It is resistant to climatic conditions ranging from hot and humid to very cold temperatures. Vital for the quality of SMA is the use of TECH- NOCEL fibres or TOPCEL pellets made from TECHNOCEL. Each one functions as a carrier for the bitumen binder and prevents binder drainage. Mastic Asphalt Stone Mastic Asphalt The easy and quick application of SMA in thin layers means that this special pavement design is very cost effective. The high binder content in combination with the TECHNOCEL fibres and TOPCEL pellets improves the service life of the road and reduces the over all costs including maintenance. Quality Wear resistance, density Shearing strength Double crushed aggregate Asphalt mastic Shear lorry Pressure lorry Shear car Load bearing Service Life TECHNOCEL and TOPCEL stabilizing additives Pavement design for heavily trafficked roads is the challenge for the future 2
Passionate about fibres SMA - Mix design The main difference to existing ordinary pavement materials is the high content of large sized double crushed aggregates. The result is a strong selfsupporting aggregate matrix which is filled with a rich mortar consisting of sand, filler, bitumen binder and TECHNOCEL fibres. A comparison of typical grain distribution curves for AC 0/11S and SMA 0/11S clearly illustrates the difference in mineral composition (see right). SMA stand for: high resistance to permanent deformation longer service life and improved ageing high resistance to fatigue, cracking and wear skid resistance noise reduction application in thin layers high value for money As binder carriers, the stabilising additives TECHNOCEL and TOPCEL serve to prevent drainage of the high quantities of binder necessary during production, transport and laying. weight-% remaining ,09 0,25 0, , ,4 aperture width AC 0/11 S SMA 0/11 S sieve size in mm weight-% remaining 3
TECHNOCEL TOPCEL Foundation-stone for a long lasting connection TECHNOCEL - fibre structure shows effect Experts know how important cellulose fibres are as a stabilising additive in asphalt. TECHNOCEL TOPCEL TECHNOCEL fibres or alternatively TOPCEL pellets made from TECHNOCEL are vital for high quality asphalt. They act as a carrier for the bitumen binder and stabilize the asphalt: 3-dimensional framework resistant to high temperatures up to 250 C environmentally friendly physiologically and toxicologically safe 3-dimensional fibre framework of TECHNOCEL TOPCEL fibre pellets are made from TECHNOCEL fibres. TOPCEL is the best choise when automatic dosage and handling in BigBags or silo storage is required. Advantages of TOPCEL : free from bitumen binder it can be used at the same low dosage rate as TECHNOCEL easy and safe release of TECHNOCEL fibres and fast distribution in the mix optimum flow characteristics for automatic metering systems safe and stable storage in silos exchangeability of TECHNOCEL and TOPCEL in the performance test Adsorption of bitumen on the fibre surface and matrix 4
Passionate about fibres Everything but run down: durable asphalt with TECHNOCEL for high performan- TECHNOCEL ce asphalt. and TOPCEL and TOPCEL intersections traffic junctions As well as in SMA, TECHNOCEL are used in: and TOPCEL open porous asphalt high resistant asphalt binder layers water-proof asphalt fibre modified asphalt for special applications runways waterproof linings with high traffic loads motorsports racing circuits 5
TECHNOCEL TOPCEL Mobile filling and stable packaging: From Quickpack to BigBag Automatic dosage of TOPCEL out of a silo at the mixing plant Quickpacks are the best choise for manual dosage directly into the mixer. Modern technology ensures bags of a weight suitable for the batch size of the mixer. One bag per mix! BigBags for easy handling and discharging into small storage containers. Automatic feeding by means of a volumetric or gravimetric dosing device. The high level of storage stability and flow capacity guarantees simple and safe handling. TECHNOCEL Quickpack in increments of 500 g from 2-12 kg z.b. 6 kg Quickpack 13 x 40 x 80 cm (h x w x d) TOPCEL Quickpack in increments of 500 g from 1-12 kg z.b. 6 kg Quickpack 7 x 38 x 65 cm (h x w x d) BigBag 400 kg TECHNOCEL 200 x 100 x 100 cm (h x w x d) BigBag 500 kg TOPCEL 100 x 100 x 100 cm (h x w x d) BigBag kg TOPCEL 200 x 100 x 100 cm (h x w x d) Bulk deliveries for economic storage in silos (35-80 m³). 1 cubic metre is equal to approx. 500 kg of TOPCEL. Bulk storage without additional handling TECHNOCEL 1004-G Fibre pellets in small packs and BigBags This product, a further development of our wellestablished TECHNOCEL fibre, is delivered to you in small packs. 6 An enhanced quality product with numerous benefits: more homogenous distribution in the mixer no agglutination of the fibres within the mix improved handling on account of lower volume packaging space-saving storage through the optimal use of palettes With TECHNOCEL 1004-G pellets, you are purchasing a safe and storage-stable CFF product.
Passionate about fibres Dosing devices TECHNOCEL and TOPCEL TECHNOCEL and TOPCEL are metered to achieve more effective stabilisation prior to the addition of bitumen. Dry mix tests are necessary in order to monitor fibre distribution within the mix. As a result, pre-mix times are individually coordinated and adapted to the largest grain size. sec sec. ca. 15 sec sec. Dosing of aggregates TECHNOCEL TOPCEL together with aggregates Bitumen binder Post mixing Dry mixing time With reference to the German Research Institute for roads and infrastructure Example Pellet dosing device for TOPCEL Wet mixing time Example Fibre dosing device for TECHNOCEL storage container with cover, 3-4 m³, silo approx m³ 2 rotary valve 3 blower 4 feeding pipe 5 air seperator 6 discharging valve 7 gutter spout to feeder scales 8 feeding screw 9 weighing hopper 10 discharging valve Volumetric dosing of TOPCEL via rotary valve Time controlled feeding, intergrated into the main control panel Automatic, gravimetric TECHNOCEL fibre dosing device Discharging the fibres from BigBags by removing the bottom of the bag Storage of the fibres up to a maximum of approx. 600 kg After weighing a blower transports the fibres into the mixer Gravimetric dosing of TOPCEL Additional weighing guarantees more accurate feeding 7
