29 SIMS Project SIMS is a 3 year Horizon 2020 funded European wide project and will demonstrate that the European Mining Industry and Technology providers are Global Leaders with Sustainable Intelligent Mining Systems. 32 Once upon a time The call was SC : Intelligent mining on land (2016) The main objective is to develop innovative pilots demonstrating clean and sustainable production of non-energy non-agricultural raw materials in the EU from primary and/or secondary sources. with a clear link to EU EIP Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP), 2013 [weblink] Identify the drivers for the call to understand EU COM focus and priorities! 32

34 The application Vision: The SIMS project aspires to create a long lasting impact on the way we test and demonstrate new technology and solutions for the mining industry. With a selected consortium ranging from mining companies, equipment and system suppliers to top-class universities, the SIMS project will boost development and innovation through joint activities aiming at creating a sustainable intelligent mining system SIMS aims to develop, test and demonstrate new innovative technologies within the designated consortium, consisting of well developed mining operations, selected due to their maturity regarding innovative technologies, world-leading equipment and system suppliers, highly specialized SMEs and top-class universities. The consortium origins in the EIT RawMaterials partnership, and has joined for this proposal due to the common challenges and needs. Objectives: Efficiency - To increase resource efficiency and competitiveness Safety - To reduce the risk of rock falls and exposure of workers to hazardous situations Environment -To minimize environmental impact of mining operations Trust - To increase public trust, awareness and acceptance for mining. How: We address the call intelligent mining on land and aim to develop, test and demonstrate relevant technologies all aiming at realizing the vision of the intelligent mining system. To meet the project vision and support EU strategies as outlined in the call we have addressed the project objectives by selecting pilot test areas and tests that will support this. Relevance: Specific challenge Raw materials Innovative pilot actions : We will bring the most innovative new products in the area of mining and test these in a real life environment in the selected test mines. Addressing actions stated in: EIP-SIP Raw Materials Technology pillar 1A (priority area raw material research and innovation coordination), 1B (technology area for primary and secondary raw materials production). 34

35 The evaluation Criterion 1 Excellence Score: 3.50 (Threshold: 3.00/5.00, Weight: %) The objectives are clear and pertinent. The proposal addresses most criteria of the call and is well in line with the topic of the call. Criterion 2 Impact Score: 4.00 (Threshold: 3.00/5.00, Weight: %) If successful the project will have significant impact, in line with the topic of the work programme. Criterion 3 Quality and efficiency of the implementation Score: 4.00 (Threshold: 3.00/5.00, Weight: %) The work plan is coherent and effective and the consortium partners are complementary. This is a strong consortium with representatives from four countries. The contributing partners have a track record of working within major collaborative EU funded projects and have demonstrated their knowledge and expertise of collaborative research and development in this environment. Management of risks is presented insufficiently for such an ambitious project, especially the risks related to the respective technology development. 35
