2 The ESCO Story In 1913 C.F. Swigert decided to solve his own problem. Availability of replacement parts for the Portland trolley cars he owned was limited, so he started the Electric Steel Foundry (now ESCO) in order to make what he needed. Business quickly expanded to include proprietary products for the logging industry and the company thrived by designing several patented steel wearparts for industrial machinery.
