3 : s e c u r e s i n g l e - u s e f i l t r a t i o n Based on our joint venture with Anios and our experience we have designed and developed sterile single-use filter capsules to guarantee microbiologically pure water for 7 days (schülke filtration 7A), 14 days (schülke filtration 14A) and for 30 days (schülke filtration 30LPA) including Legionella. Our range of filters reduce the risk of cross contamination in high risk departments such as burn units, ICU, operating theatres etc.

4 I n n o v a t i o n a n d s a f e t y : a p a t e n t e d c o n c e p t PROTECTIVE SKIRT PEELABLE LID REPOSITIONABLE LABEL STERILE SACHET SILK-SCREEN PRINTING FLOW REDUCER - HAND SHOWER It is essential that the downstream part of the filter capsule be protected against all hand-borne contamination during use: the protective skirt is an ingenious method of ensuring that this is achieved efficiently. The sterility of the hand shower outlet before use, whether flat or screwed, must be guaranteed. The concept of the peelable lid is the functional and safe solution to this problem. The schülke filtration 7A, 14A and 30LPA are traceable in use. The repositionable label, after having been recorded, is included in a traceability log. The schülke filtration 7A, 14A and 30LPA range are presented in a radiosterilized sachet, which guarantees they are sterile at the moment they are installed on the tap. An identity label shows the expiry date and the product code of the model, the connection and the dowstream outlet. The schülke filtration is identified via a batch number and an individual series number is screen printed underneath the filter case. An optimum flow-rate which avoids splashing or sudden contact with the skin is an important factor with regard to comfort and hygiene: - the differential pressure device (flow-rate reducer) and the optimized design of the hand shower ensure that this objective is achieved.

5 1 2 P e r f o r m a n c e s Bacterial challenge in accordance with the standard ASTM F method, defining the sterilizing grade vis-à-vis Brevundimonas diminuta* (0.2 micron) - Study N o Filter capsules from different batches were assessed and confirm the minimum of 10 7 microorganisms per cm 2 of filtration surface bacterial retention. All filters met the requirements for a sterilising grade filter. Therefore the filters are effective against total bacteria for 7 days including Legionella. Assessment of the bacterial retention over 7/14 days in unfavourable conditions (Worst case) - Study N o 8326/9080. Filter capsules from different batches were contaminated daily using a bacterial suspension of Brevundimonas diminuta* (titer greater than 10 7 microorganisms / cm 2 of filtration surface). The 7 day capsules gave a sterile filtrate during 7 days at least. The 14 day capsules prevented any transfer of bacteria over a 14 day period. Assessment of bacterial retention vis-àvis Legionella pneumophila over 30 days in unfavourable capsules (Worst case) - Study N o 934/04. The schülke filtration 30LPA filter capsules were subjected to a daily inoculation with Legionella pneumophila (microbial titer of 10 7 microorganisms / cm 2 of filtration surface, based on a filtration flowrate of 2.5 to 3 litres / minute, for 7 hours). After 30 days of tests, no viable microorganism was detected downstream from the membrane. 3 Therefore both 7A and 14A filters are effective against total bacteria including Legionella. Therefore the filters are effective against total bacteria for 7 days including Legionella. * Test for Brevundimonas diminuta shows equivalency for Legionella Measurement of the filtration volume of schülke filtration 7A, 14A and 30LPA - Study N o 8071B. With constant pressure of 2 bar, after 220 minutes filtration: The filter capsule has a nominal filtration flowrate of 1.33 litres / min. (1 litre / min. for the product compared), for a filtration volume of 700 litres (460 litres for the product compared). Calculation of the filtration flow-rates depending on the mains pressure - Study N o The filter capsules, with a relative operating pressure range of 1 to 3 bar, have a flow-rate sufficient to facilitate any washing or rinsing without presenting a speed which would be damaging with regard to hygiene.
