Remain a leader in reuse in Florida. Strive to more beneficially reuse reclaimed water currently disposed to Tampa Bay. Achieve 100% beneficial reuse goal by identifying options that benefit the region instead of more limited local uses.

Most Impacted Area (MIA) of the SWUCA SWUCA
Partnership with the Southwest Florida Water Management District. Meets multiple goals required for funding: Environmental/Natural systems improvement Water Quality Water Supply Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) recommends this recharge alternative over others proposed in drinking water zones.

Falkenburg AWTP Valrico AWTP SHARP Pilot Project South County AWTP
Significantly restricts future groundwater development within the SWUCA and prohibits new development in the MIA. Requires a plan to primarily utilize alternative water sources instead of a groundwater source. Requires water level improvement (environmental net benefit) to the MIA before any groundwater development can occur within the SWUCA.

SWUCA MIA Recharge well is located within the saltwater wedge.
SWUCA MIA Recharge will cause a mounding of water levels along the coast restoring natural groundwater flow gradients to Tampa Bay.
SWUCA MIA The Recharge water level mounding will allow for future groundwater withdrawals further inland within the SWUCA.
Coastal recharge provides water level net benefit meeting the SWUCA recovery strategy. Allows for future groundwater supply development in the SWUCA. Protects groundwater sources and mitigates saltwater intrusion by creating a salinity barrier. Numerical Nutrient Loadings Mitigation. Beneficial Wet Season Reclaimed Water Use.
A Regional Aquifer Recharge System provides a regional net benefit to the Most Impacted Area of the SWUCA
10 MGD Recharge Only SHARP RW-1 Location feet feet feet feet
SHARP RW-1 Location feet 10 MGD Recharge with And 9 MGD Withdrawal feet feet feet
SHARP Pilot System Location
Recharge will enable Hillsborough County, and other local entities to eliminate over 50 MGD of wastewater or 200 tons of annual nitrogen discharges to Tampa Bay
During the wet months, reclaimed water would be beneficially recharged into the aquifer instead of disposed to waste through the surface water discharges. During dry months, 100% of reclaimed water is used in the Southern service area. In areas where the demands exceed reclaimed water flows during dry months, groundwater supply from SWUCA mitigation credits can supplement summer irrigation demands.

SWUCA Recovery Strategy Supports Meeting SWFWMD recovery strategy goals. Future Groundwater Supply within the SWUCA New groundwater supplies needed in areas where few alternative supplies exist. Saltwater Intrusion Mitigation Protects current groundwater quality and establishes natural groundwater gradient. Numerical Nutrient Loadings Mitigation Minimizes and potentially eliminate nutrients released to the Bay. Wet Season Reclaimed Water Use Promotes beneficial use of reclaimed water instead of disposal. Cost effective solution to address regional environmental benefits and water supply issues.
