2 A Lead Project with a pioneering history in SA 2001 : Project started by Genesis Eco-Energy & land owner On part of Sunnyside dairy farm, outside Jeffrey s Bay Originally 16MW wind and 5MW pumped storage 1 st EIA s for wind farms Focus on supplying energy to strengthen grid in the area poor supply 2009: Genesis and Mainstream form JV to take project forward - announce R11bn energy development programme 2011: Project awarded preferred bidder status in REIPPPP 2012: Financial Close, 5 November 2012: NTP 15 November 2013: Ground breaking Feb 2013

3 Project Description Jeffreys Bay Location: adjacent to the N2 between the towns of Humansdorp and Jeffrey s Bay, in the Eastern Cape Total number of landowners = 8 including the Fatman Cooperative Farming Trust The Project will be spread across cover a total area of approx 3574 ha. All land is currently used for grazing. Installed Capacity: 138 MW consisting of 60 x 2.3 Megawatt Siemens Wind Turbines Grid Connection: into the 132kv line that crosses site & connects into Melkhout substation 2 km s from site DOE PPA scheme via REIPPPP- 20 year contracts for the purchase of electricity

8 Economic Benefit for Operations Wind farm construction skills to small enterprises New construction skills turbine foundations; turbine erection Operational Jobs - Minimum of 15 full time positions for the 20 year operational life of the project Community Trust Commitment of 1.4% of annual gross revenue to SED Commitment of 0.52% of gross revenue to Enterprise Development Beneficiaries will be the community within a 50KM radius Focus areas so far: education, healthcare, social infrastructure Procurement from local enterprises Income for local farmers farmer development with emerging new landowners

10 Critical Milestones - Overview Mobilisation NTP 13 November 2012, site mobilisation 22 November 2012 Construction 1 st Turbine Pour: 19 th March 2013 (T24). Total 60 turbines split into 8 circuits. Siemens components to arrive in port mid july. Turbine erection to commence 1 st of August 2013 Final Turbine foundation complete 22 nd Nov 2013 Substation Construction Commence: 19 th Feb 2013 Eskom access to Substation for Commissioning- 23 rd October 2013 construction complete & hand over to Eskom Energisation of Grid Connection by Eskom 5 th December 2013 ( Pivotal key date for us as we need an energised substation to start commissioning the turbines) COD: 15 th of May 2014.

11 Challenges - Procurement Local Procurement DOE definition of local within 50km radius of projects Local Municipalities not necessarily briefed on Bid criteria Specialised Equipment required: so goods and services not always available in locality Local goods and services must compete with quality and price

12 Challenges Goods and services Availability of Local Goods and Services Local business encouraged to register on project database CLO manages this process Eligible business must have, a Company Registration Number, Tax Clearance, UIF, COIDA, Valid Letter of good standing, BBBEE certificate, Company Profile with references and photos Selection criteria to be chosen to supply: Safety, Quality, Previous Experience (References),Price. Uptake of process from local business has been poor to date.

15 Environmental Compliance Majority of environmental permits in place before DoE bid submission. Environmental Control Officer (ECO) engaged for construction period. ECO Audits ongoing. Flora and Fauna search and rescue ongoing

16 Roads and Hard Standings Good ground and topographical conditions for construction. Design complete. 14Km of roads built, another 39Km to go.

17 Foundation Construction Good geotechnical conditions. Design complete, standard GBS. Construction period 30 days / foundation

19 Substation Eskom 132kV grid line traverses site 160 MVA Transformer. Manufacture South Africa. Steps up voltage from 33kV to 132kV. Earthworks complete.
