7 First Steps Prcess Early stages f a multi-step, intensive prcess Rutes PennEast first evaluates several different pipeline rutes Surveys Cnducted t determine which rute will be least impactful t the envirnment and the lcal cmmunities and best suited fr cnstructin Land Agents Will talk with landwners abut accessing and surveying prperty if it is alng the prpsed pipeline rute Right-f-Way (ROW) Agreements If a prperty is selected fr the final rute, PennEast will ask the landwner t enter int a ROW agreement, which grants permissin fr PennEast t cnstruct the pipeline n a specified prtin f the prperty 7

9 Pipeline Safety Less than.01 percent f all transprtatin accidents in the United States are related t natural gas pipelines, accrding t the Natinal Transprtatin Safety Bard (NTSB) Fr the last 20 years, third-party damage remains the primary cause f serius incidents invlving natural gas pipelines, accrding t the American Gas Assciatin: Cmmn Grund Alliance (CGA) seeks t imprve safety and reduce damages t undergrund infrastructure Rughly a 40 percent reductin in excavatin damages since its 2004 inceptin Primarily as a result f significant effrts by pipeline cmpanies t wrk with regulatrs, excavatrs and members f the public 9

10 Pipeline Safety There are many required measures fr safe pipeline peratins, but PennEast s cmmitment t safety will be demnstrated frm the start f the Prject thrughut peratin f the Pipeline: Adpting design features and perating practices that meet r exceed stringent regulatry and industry standards Use f thicker pipe than required The latest technlgy in crrsin cntrl, including a fusin-bnded epxy that prvides increased durability Placement f shutff valves a minimum f every 10 miles Use f X-ray during cnstructin t ensure jints are welded prperly Cnducting an integrity test f the entire line prir t placing it int service Mnitring gas pressures alng the pipeline 24/7 in real-time Cnducting annual leak surveys and walking surveys f the entire line 10
