West Virginia Commercial & Industrial Energy Efficiency Rebate Program
Welcome! Introduce Appalachian Power s West Virginia C&I Program Define terms Explain how the program works Describe how customers can participate Answer your questions!
Commercial & Industrial Program The energy efficiency program available to Appalachian Power s nonresidential customers in West Virginia Offers financial incentives for qualifying energy efficiency projects installed on or before 12/31/2017 o Standard projects 6 per kwh saved o Custom projects 7 per kwh saved o HVAC and Lighting Savings based on the calculator Helps your business offset the costs of making cost-effective improvements Better ROI & faster payback Lower utility bills for years to come Rebates cover up to 50% of project cost
C&I Program Rules Contingent on review and acceptance of savings No cost to participate Within 60 days of installation, submit a completed application Reserve funds for 90 days by completing an application with an expected date of project completion Rebate check paid within 4-6 weeks of final application s verification and approval
Standard vs. Custom Projects Standard projects involve replacing existing equipment to high energy efficiency models Common projects include lighting and HVAC upgrades New buildings with only one energy efficiency project Custom projects involve installing energy efficient systems (multiple equipment) in buildings under renovation, additions and new construction All projects over 500,000 kwh are custom (250,000 for VFD s) New buildings with more than one type of energy efficiency project Energy efficiency upgrades not included in the standard program Custom projects require pre-approval
Lighting Rebates Types and guidelines
Lighting Rebates kwh savings depend on business sector type and lighting replacement. The more efficient the greater the rebate. Hours per year depends on building type, interior or exterior Example of lighting projects: Existing linear fluorescent fixture retrofits T12 or T8 to LED HID lamp replacements Metal Halide to LED
T12 Retrofit Examples Existing 2 x4, 4-lamp, 34-watt retrofit with a 4-lamp 18W LED Kit in an office = $12.43 rebate per fixture Existing 2 x4, 4-lamp, 34-watt retrofit with a 4-lamp 32W T8 Kit in an office = $5.52 rebate per fixture Existing 2 x4, 4-lamp, 34-watt retrofit with a 50 W LED kit in a manufacturing (1-shift) facility = $18.05 rebate Retrofit existing 4, 4-lamp linear fixture in a grocery store with a 50 W LED kit = $29.44 rebate
T8 Retrofit Examples
HID Lamp Replacements: Replace existing 1000W Metal Halide parking lot lamp with a new 300W LED fixture = $180 rebate Replace a 400W Metal Halide high bay fixture in an industrial (2- shift) warehouse with a new 160W LED high bay = $60 rebate Replace a 400W Metal Halide gas canopy fixture to a new 100W LED fixture = $82 rebate Replace a 400W metal halide fixture in a commercial shop with a T5 fluorescent high bay fixture and occupancy sensor = $64 rebate
HID Retrofit Examples
Case Study Save-A-Lot 2 nd retail store lighting upgrade by owner Upgrades: Replaced T12s with new, more efficient T8s Outfitted merchandise cooler with brighter, energy-saving LEDs Benefits: Shows off store s products better More friendly shopping experience Saves 81,345 kwh annual energy use = $4,880 approx. $4,800 rebate reduced payback to 3.3 years
Case Study - Cabela s 2 building distribution facility lighting without motion sensors, operating 24 hrs/day Upgrades: Replaced 2,100 lamps & T8s with 1,514 high efficiency LEDs with built in motion sensors Benefits: Combining technology + sensors reduced the number of hours lights used Saves over 2.9 million kwh annual energy use = $195,000 approx. $199,649 rebate reduced payback to 4.4 years
