14 Key Trends in the LNG Shipping Market 1 Natural Gas becoming fuel of choice Strong growth expected in the LNG market Over the next 5 years LNG annual supply is projected to rise by at least 130 mt to ~418 mt in 2021, coming from both new liquefaction plants and existing projects ramping up capacity IEA predicts global energy demand will increase by 30% between by Natural gas represents 25% of the world s energy mix LNG grows seven times faster than pipeline gas trade and is expected to account for 50% of globally traded gas in 2035 (up from 32% today) Both total consumption and the number of countries importing LNG are expected to increase significantly over the next years from 39 to 90 countries 2 LNGC fleet development The LNG shipping market is expected to tighten significantly with an estimated decrease in available tonnage of 57 vessel equivalents in the period until 2020 on conservative assumptions 90% of the LNGC newbuildings built by 2020 are committed on long term charters 3 Activity in LNG chartering market continues to grow While activity in the LNG chartering market continues to grow, the average charter durations fall Short-term fixtures (>6 months) picked up in 2016 as charterers began covering term requirements from new project start ups Higher spot rates for MEGI propulsion vessels (estimated to be approx. 15 2017 Ends Strong for LNG Shipping Shipping recovery continued, spot rates rose to highest levels in 4 years COMPANY SNAPSHOT The fourth quarter saw headline rates double Cold Asian winter, a strong Chinese push from coalto-gas, and an open arbitrage window between European and Asian LNG prices, were factors boosting demand for LNG Majors and Traders moved ahead of the winter and secured 10+ vessels on multi-month charters, reducing spot vessel availability TFDE spot rates increased from ~$40k in October to ~$80k in December. 19 Project Vessels Delivering Early Impact on Spot Market Three new US LNG export projects have reported delays to their start up Cove Point was originally planned to begin being exports in late 2017 but latest update has commissioning cargoes starting in April 2018 Cameron LNG was originally scheduled to come online in 2018 but the latest projection has Train 1 operational in Q Freeport LNG has been pushed back a few times, and the current expectation is that Train 1 starts producing in Q3-Q Newbuildings for delayed projects may trade in spot market until project starts Several Owners/Charterers with newbuildings ordered for Cameron and Freeport have agreed with shipyards to push back deliveries Others may offer the vessels in the spot market until their projects are up and running Source: Affinity LNG 19

20 LNG Shipping Market Balance COMPANY SNAPSHOT The LNG shipping market is expected to gradually tighten from the end of 2018, with Australia, the U.S. and Russia being the driving forces for soaking up tonnage During Q2-Q shipping balance is forecasted to increase due to delivery of newbuildings ahead of project start-up.
