On a global scale, buildings (both residential and commercial) account for 35% to 40% of total final energy consumption. Commercial buildings, for example, consume a considerable amount of energy related to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); lighting; water heating; and various other building functions. Most countries around the world are also becoming more environmentally conscious. With the continued challenge of climate change, more countries are implementing measures that will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and reduce energy consumption.
