AOC Welcomes Ron Adams to Corrosion Team Ron Adams has joined AOC as Corrosion Market Specialist, where he will work with engineers and fabricators to communicate the benefits of AOC s Vipel brand of corrosion-resistant resins. Ron has over 20 years of experience in the composites industry in a diverse range of engineering and technical service roles. 7 Recycling Facility Fights Corrosion with Composites Christen & Laudon, a Germanbased firm with extensive experience in industrial applications, was selected to design and construct an exhaust chimney for one of the world s largest recycling plants. The project was part of an expansion at Umicore s recycling plant in Hoboken, Belgium, which recovers metals from industrial Vipel F010-CNJ is highly resistant to corrosion and performs extremely well in most acidic environments. residue. The chimney needed to funnel corrosive gas containing sulfur dioxide that could reach temperatures of 60 C (140 F). Christen & Laudon chose AOC s Vipel F010-CNJ to build the chimney s composite lining. Vipel F010-CNJ is a promoted and non-thixotropic bisphenol-a epoxy based vinyl ester resin that is highly resistant to corrosion and performs extremely well in most acidic environments. Christen & Laudon used a filament winding process to construct the liner. Soaring 60 meters (approximately 196 feet) in height and 4 meters (approximately 13 feet) in diameter, the chimney weighs 60 tons. The gas entrances are at the bottom of the tall free-standing chimney, which required a special design to support and stabilize it. Christen and Laudon brought the design and manufacturing expertise to this important project. And, Vipel F010-CNJ brought the corrosion resistance. CHIMNEY MADE WITH AOC S VIPEN F010-CNJ RESIN AT UMICORE S RECYCLING PLANT IN HOBOKEN, BELGIUM CSP Designs and Builds New Jeep Wrangler Roof Continental Structural Plastics (CSP) designed and molded the new Jeep Wrangler Freedom Top to be better than ever. The Freedom Top is a 3-piece hard top with two lightweight Freedom panels positioned over the front seat and a larger panel on the back. The two front panels are molded with TCA Ultra Lite, CSP s proprietary lightweight composite system made with AOC s custom unsaturated polyester resin. In addition to offering superior strength, adhesion and finish TCA Ultra Lite delivers lower density to achieve weight savings of 12 pounds over earlier models, making the panels much easier to remove. In addition to the weight savings, specific design elements add to the ease of removing the panels. And, TCA Ultra Lite s qualities also allow more flexibility in the design process, which facilitates the creation of unique body panels. The Freedom Top includes a full-length drip rail that allows for convenient roof rack installation as well as a streamlined shape that prevents standing water. With TCA Ultra Lite, Jeep now offers drivers more flexibility to choose either a quiet ride or open air, anytime they choose. CROSSLINK VOL. 22 7

Complete with multiple resin reactors, mix tanks and storage tanks, the Valparaiso plant provides resins for customers worldwide. We encourage each member of our team to take personal accountability for our workplace safety, said Bill Sears, Valparaiso Plant Manager.
