Who are we 4
Who are we Gas Natural Fenosa is the largest gas and electricity company in Spain and in Latin America, leading the natural gas sales market in the Iberian Peninsula, and is the biggest distributor of natural gas in Latin America. Currently the company is present in over 25 countries and has around 20 million customers worldwide. Benchmark operator in the Atlantic and Mediterranean basins with a 30bcm portfolio of LNG and natural gas supplies One of the biggest LNG operators in the world Fleet of 10 methane carriers Investments in 3 regasifiers and in 2 liquefaction plants 5
Advantages of Natural Gas as a vehicular fuel 6
Advantages of Natural Gas as a vehicular fuel Current Transport Model The current transportation model is by many deemed not to be sustainable due to: Unpredictability and constant increase of Fuel Prices Limited world reserves - Concentrated in difficult geopolitical areas. 96% of energy for transportation comes from crude oil, strong dependence of external supply sources (in Spain this dependence is higher than EU average) 41% of final energy used in Spain is transportation. Increasing need increases CO 2 emissions and global warming. 60% of entire vehicle fleet of Spain is diesel fuelled. Increase in local pollutants: PM and NOx. We have to achieve strategies to reduce economical, risk and environmental impacts of the transport Model Improved EFFICIENCY in technologies - Reduction in consumption Fuel DIVERSIFICATION Reduction in POLLUTANTS 7
Advantages of Natural Gas as a vehicular fuel Environmental aspects Local pollution. Air quality in the cities influences on human health Natural gas reduces local pollutants: NOx >80%, SO 2 100%, PM >95%, CO 25% Natural gas improves acoustic emissions compared against diesel. In heavy vehicles this reduction can get up to 50%. Global pollution. Global warming affects climate change On chemical composition, one carbon molecule of natural gas combustion produces for equal terms of energy; between 10 and 25 percent less CO 2 than others petroleum fuels. Natural gas is 100% compatible (same molecule) with biomethane (treated biogas came from anaerobic digestion of organic matter), a totally renewable fuel. 8
Advantages of Natural Gas as a vehicular fuel Liquefied natural gas (LNG) Local pollution. Air quality in the cities influences on human health Natural gas is in gaseous phase in origen in the gasfields. Transportation: liquefaction at atmospheric pressure reduces temperature to ºC. Volume is reduced 600 times. LNG tanks: triple range (~ km) LNG is a key factor for medium and long distance transportation LNG is as an alternative transport fuel for HDV that is both economic and environmentally friendly. 9
Advantages of Natural Gas as a vehicular fuel To kick-start the process The European Council has a long-term commitment to the decarbonisation path setting a target for the EU and other industrialized countries of a 80 to 95% reduction in emissions by LNG might also offer a cost-efficient technology for heavy duty vehicles to meet the stringent pollutant emission limits of Euro VI standards Member States shall cooperate to ensure that heavy duty motor vehicles running on LNG can travel all along the roads on the TEN-T Core Network. For this purposes, publicly accessible refuelling points for LNG shall be established within distances not exceeding 400 km by 31 December 2020 at the latest. 10

GARneT Project Outline Partners General Objetive Gas Natural SDG, S.A. Ham Criogénica S.L. A study to determine the required steps to integrate new state of the art developed LNG technologies with smart communication technologies through a feasible deployment plan to facilitate the introduction and future massive use of LNG as alternative transport fuel for HGVs. This study will aim to provide answers to mid and longterm strategy to overcome existing barriers in order to accelerate the deployment of this option. Budget Duration Total Project Budget: 3.87M The European Commission contributes 50% of total budget, M through the Ten-T annual innovation programme Start Date: 15 th April 2012 End Date: 31 st December
GARneT Specific Objectives The specific objectives of the project are: Implement seven LNG refuelling stations trials on some of the prioritised trans-european transport network routes (four fixed and three mobile design) and undertake trials at each station. Evaluate the logistics of supplying LNG to the stations. Define business models based on the results of the trials of this project to supply LNG across Europe and deploy LNG as a transport fuel at an economic price. Identify requirements and their discrepancies in regulatory standards across the Member States and propose actions to achieve. 14

GARneT Work Package 1: Requirements Analyze the requirements to successfully carry out the proposed action at a generic level. It will also identify the potential cost savings and CO 2 emission reductions for LNG vehicles for typical journeys along the transport routes. Task 1: Identification of both vehicles and current LNG refuelling stations technologies available worldwide. Task 2: Definition of validation scenarios, including the collection of standards and regulatory issues at the European level. Task 3: Definition of key performance indicators and establishment of target values with the aim to permit a fair and transparent assessment of the proposed trials in this action. 16
GARneT Work Package 2: Integration The activity will define and justify the technology for each trial. Task 1: Identify the selection of the Technology for each refuelling station. Task 2: Justify the selection of technologies to be implemented in the trial LNG refuelling stations Task 3: Specify the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to be deployed. A cryogenic dispenser for filling the LNG vehicles. The L-CNG filling station is equipped with two dispensers: cryogenic dispenser for filling the LNG vehicles and gaseous dispenser for filling the CNG vehicles. 17
GARneT Work Package 3: Business Models The activity is intended to determine potential business models for the Spanish network of corridors (Atlantic, Central and Mediterranean) and its future integration with the possible international corridors connecting Spain with France and Portugal. Task 1: Methodology of implementation of charging stations will define an implementation methodologies for refuelling stations taking into account the technology type/potential fleet for each refuelling station with the aim to optimise the costs and guarantee fuel supply New LNG dedicated vehicle Retrofitted LNG dedicated vehicle Comparative costs (for km/year) LNG Diesel New dual New dual New dual fuel vehicle fuel vehicle fuel vehicle (subst. 90%) (subst. 75%) (subst. 60%) Retrofitted dual fuel vehicle (subst. 90%) Retrofitted dual fuel vehicle (subst. 75%) Retrofitted dual fuel vehicle (subst. 60%) Task 2: Business models related with LNG recharging will define the business models in Spain for future deployment to potential fleet markets. Task 3: Associated services to the mobility of the carriers using LNG will identify required services for a future LNG refuelling infrastructure. 18
GARneT Work Package 4: Trial Deployment Install the specified four fixed LNG refuelling pilot stations and design and construct the three mobile pilot refuelling stations. Location of Fixed Station: Station 1: Montilla del Palancar (Cuenca) Station 2: Alovera (Guadalajara) Station 2: Riba Roja del Turia (Valencia) Station 4: Iruña de Oca- Vitoria (País Vasco) All stations to be operational by 15 th July
