5 2.0 STATEMENT OF INTENT (FOR CHROMIUM) O-I Canada Corporation is committed to playing a leadership role in protecting the environment. The use of Chromium is an essential colourant additive in the glass that we produce. Much is already bound in recycled glass and cannot be reduced. This colourant is necessary to manufacture the green shades of glass which are used in the beverage industry for increased preservation and protection of the bottled liquids. We will continue to use this substance in strict accordance with all applicable environmental regulations. With reference to the Ontario Toxics Reduction Act, the reduction objectives are outlined in Section 4 of this Plan Summary for the reportable substance Chromium at O-I Canada Corporation Plant # SUBSTANCES REQUIRING PLANS The following substance, Chromium, requires a plan based on 2011 Toxics Reduction Act accounting information. Chromium is contained in the iron chromite which is used as a colourant to produce green shades of glass. 4.0 OBJECTIVES OF THE PLAN & ANY TARGETS O.I. Canada Corporation prides itself on technological innovation in order to produce high quality products in an environmentally responsible manner. We will strive to reduce the use of Chromium at the facility. Further, this plan will determine the technical and economic feasibility of each option to determine which, if any, are viable for implementation at this time. Technical advances will be monitored for new opportunities to reduce the use of Chromium at the facility. 5.0 OPTIONS TO BE IMPLEMENTED (OR STATEMENT THAT NONE ARE TO BE IMPLEMENTED) No feasible reduction options have been identified. O-I will continue to monitor new opportunities as part of their continuous improvement program and will evaluate them in future plan reviews. 6.0 CONTENTS OF THIS PLAN SUMMARY REFLECTS PLAN This Plan Summary accurately reflects the Toxic Substance Reduction Plans dated December 20, 2012, prepared for the substances listed in Section 1.0 of this Summary Pinchin Environmental Ltd. 3
