3 Utilities Consumption n Electric: about $2.7 million per month n Water: about $85,000 per month n Steam: about $350,000 per month n We generate our own chilled water n 18,000 tons per year total waste generated

4 Building s Impact on the Environment n 65.2% of total U.S. electricity consumption n 36% of total U.S. primary energy use n Five billion gal/day of potable water is used to flush toilets n 30% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emission n 40% (3 billion tons/yr) of raw material used globally Note: On average, Americans spend 80% - 90% of their time indoors

10 UF Sustainability Program n In 2001 University of Florida officially adopted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for design and construction of all major new construction and renovation projects

11 UF Sustainability Program n Incorporated LEED criteria into UF Construction Standards n Incorporated LEED criteria into UF Design Services Guide and our contracts n Leadership role in founding the USGBC chapters n First to require a LEED Accredited Professional on staff n Set high standards for design and construction
