2 How can I benefit from Home Performance with ENERGY STAR? Homeowners who participate in Focus on Energy's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR have more comfortable living spaces, live in warmer homes in the winter and cooler homes in the summer, and pay less for their utility bills. They receive financial rewards for making air sealing and insulation improvements and are also more confident in the installation of their energy-saving improvements because the work is completed by a certified Focus on Energy Trade Ally. Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Benefits Typical utility bill savings of 30% or more More comfortable rooms with less temperature fluctuations, fewer drafts and higher indoor air quality. Air sealing and insulation improvements made by Focus on Energy trained and BPI-certified Trade Allies Third-party quality assurance to make sure work is completed correctly Reduced greenhouse gas emissions to protect the environment FREE energy-saving products and installation (a $100 value) What makes a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR participating Trade Ally different? It takes knowledge and skill to identify and know what improvements to make that will improve a home's comfort and durability and reduce its energy use. Home Performance Trade Allies are trained by Focus on Energy and are Building Performance Institute (BPI) Certified. They are equipped with specialized training and diagnostic tools to determine how your house is performing. This training and expertise sets them apart from other contractors and that is why Focus on Energy rewards are only available through a Home Performance Trade Ally. What should I expect during an energy assessment? Energy Assessments vary in scope, length and cost depending the age, size and condition of your home. A typical assessment includes an inspection of your home's interior, exterior, attic, crawl space and basement. Your Trade Ally may perform technology-based diagnostic tests including: a blower door test to identify air and duct leaks; a combustion safety test to ensure appliance efficiency, measure carbon monoxide levels and check for gas leaks; and infrared camera testing to detect voids around windows and doors or missing and damaged insulation. We recommend that you be present during your assessment and ask questions about your home's energy-use. Am I eligible to participate in the program? Home Performance is available to homeowners who reside in a residential building with three or fewer units. The resident must be a customer of a participating utility company, and at least 50 percent of the home must be heated with natural gas or electricity. Visit focusonenergy.com/utilities to confirm your utility company's participation. To determine your reward level, find your household size and household income in the State Median Income (SMI) chart below. If your annual or three month household income is 80 percent SMI or lower, you are eligible for Reward Level 2 benefits. If your annual or three month household income is above 80 percent SMI, you are eligible for Reward Level 1 benefits. STATE MEDIAN INCOME (SMI) LIMITS BY HOUSEHOLD SIZE (2015) HOUSEHOLD INCOME Household Size To get started on your energy-saving air sealing and insulation improvements, visit focusonenergy.com/homeperformance Annual Income 80% SMI 3 Month Income 80% SMI 1 $33,534 $8,384 2 $43,853 $10,963 3 $54,171 $13,543 4 $64,489 $16,122 5 $74,808 $18,702 6 $85,126 $21,282 7 $87,061 $21,765 8 $88,995 $22,249 9 $90,930 $22, $92,865 $23, $94,799 $23, $96,734 $24,184 NOTE: If your income is less than 60 percent SMI, you may be eligible for other income-qualified programs. Taking a whole-house approach allows Trade Allies to analyze the various systems within your home and determine how they work together most efficiently. Modeling your home allows Trade Allies to make the specific recommendation for your home. The recommendations are summarized in your assessment report. Making the recommended improvements all at once, or in stages, allows the Trade Ally to ensure the improvements are working together and the improvements are functioning as they were intended. Your Trade Ally verifies their work during the test-out which identifies any outstanding issues and determines if you are eligible for an additional bonus. As a result, participants in Focus on Energy s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program are able to access a wider pool of eligible measures that are incentivized with larger Instant Discount and Cash-Back Rewards. WHAT IF I CANNOT MAKE ALL IMPROVEMENTS NOW? Focus on Energy recognizes that everyone cannot participate in the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program for various reasons such as budgetary or time constraints. For these homeowners, Focus on Energy recommends concentrating on high-impact attic insulation and air sealing improvements through the Residentail Rewards Program. Studies show that air sealing and insulating attic spaces offers significant energy and cost savings for homeowners. Because your efficiency investment is lower with this approach, incentives are also lower than what is offered through Home Performance with ENERGY STAR. For your peace of mind, Trade Allies completing work on your home are held to Focus on Energy s installation and quality assurance standards on all projects. 8 RENEWABLE S SOLAR ELECTRIC CASH-BACK Installing a renewable energy system saves considerable energy. Focus on Energy helps Wisconsin residents and businesses offset costs by offering Cash-Back Rewards for qualifying solar electric equipment. WHAT IS SOLAR ELECTRIC? Solar electric systems, also known as photovoltaic (PV) systems, use sunlight to generate electricity. Solar electric systems are: Effective: Wisconsin gets enough sun, even in winter, to produce energy and reduce electricity bills for your home or business. Well-designed: To capture light, solar cells, modules, panels, or arrays are strategically placed on roofs, stand-alone poles, or sides of buildings. Systems operate silently and typically have few or no moving parts. Clean energy producers: Solar electric systems do not give off emissions or pollutants. SOLAR ELECTRIC : $600 PER KW DC (UP TO $2,400) Your Cash-Back Reward is calculated based on system size. For example, a 1.5 kilowatts of direct current (kw DC ) system qualifies for a $900 Cash-Back Reward (1.5 kw DC x $600 = $900). A Focus on Energy Trade Ally can help you estimate your savings and choose a solar electric system that is right for your home or business. FOCUS ON ENERGY SOLAR ELECTRIC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Eligible models and inverters must be selected from Focus on Energy s qualified product list found at focusonenergy.com/solar. System capacity must be 0.5 kw DC or greater. kw DC capacity is determined using the photovoltaic USA test conditions (PTC) value specified on the qualified product list. Must be installed within 45 degrees of due south. Must be installed with a panel tilt between degrees. Must have less than 10 percent obstacle shading based on the analysis of an industry-accepted tool. See application for complete details. MAXIMIZE EFFICIENCY FIRST To optimize energy savings from your renewable system, Focus on Energy recommends that you make at least one of the below energy efficiency improvements prior to installation: Building shell Air sealing Duct sealing Insulation Mechanical Heating Cooling Ventilation Electric ENERGY STAR lighting New, energy-efficient appliance Specialty improvements Compressed air Building control management
