2 Kosan Crisplant's liquefaction system is based on the multirefrigerant principle. In cooperation with the leading experts in this field, Kosan Crisplant has constructed a highly efficient plant, ensuring maximum operational flexibility, fully automated operation and low energy consumption. Multi-refrigerant principle improving small-scale liquefaction plants The multi-refrigerant principle for small-scale liquefaction plants is based on a comprehensive study of different methodologies. The selected technology facilitates a beneficial starting point of very low operational costs (OPEX) combined with low investment costs (CAPEX). Innovation is key The scalable system invented by Kosan Crisplant enables customers to easily increase their supply as demand rises. Inspired by LEGO's building bricks, Kosan Crisplant has developed a system that allows customers to 'grow-as-you-go'. In other words, it is possible to start small and upgrade when needed. The liquefaction supply chain the perfect integration of the nearby community During the processing of the gas and the actual liquefaction process, the facility generates heat. This excess heat can be transferred to a nearby city and used to heat private homes or local companies beneficial to the surrounding community. Add to that the privilege of being able to adjust to market conditions and benefit from cheap energy and gas. This is secured by the innovative and flexible nature of the liquefaction plant, which makes it possible to limit production of LNG/LBG to when electricity and gas feed prices are low according to customer preference. The liquefaction process Natural gas is fed from the local natural gas grid or a biogas plant. Prior to liquefying the gas, it needs processing and cleaning. For the initial processing of the gas, a thermal swing adsorption technology is used. The cleaning process improves the natural gas, primarily by removing the odorant and reducing the CO contents to 0 ppm. This is critical in order to avoid dry ice in Compressor -0⁰C to 80⁰C Cool step 80⁰C to 0⁰C the system that would otherwise clog up heat exchangers, pumps etc. The first cooling sequence is carried out in a regular cooling system. This will bring the natural gas to a temperature of approx. -0 C. The pre-cooling system is designed for a maximum production rate of 0 tons/day. From the pre-cooling system, the natural gas is led to the cold-boxes. Water cooling Pre-cooler These are modularised in units of 0 tons/day and can be run at the incremental capacity of 0, 00 or 0 tons/day. From the cold-boxes, the now liquefied natural gas (LNG) at a temperature of -0 C is sent to storage tanks on site. 6 A truck loading point is connected to the storage tank allowing the distribution of LNG to off-site clients. 4 The possibilities of producing locally Compared to other supply chains, a local liquefaction plant offers a number of profitable possibilities. First of all, by producing LNG locally, the production price of the LNG is lower than that of the current 'landed price' from terminal. Furthermore, local production will secure the supply at a shorter delivery time regardless of road conditions, traffic and terminal occupancy. The latter entails full control of the supply irrespective of present or future occupancy of third party terminals. A modularised liquefaction plant with a production of 0 tons/day for each module also allows partial load production and fast delivery to current and future LNG costumers. Finally, a liquefaction plant offers the possibility of developing a base load upon which an LNG provider would be able to establish a first-mover position with a limited risk and CAPEX. Composed primarily of methane, LNG burns more cleanly than e.g. coal and oil, emitting significantly lower amounts of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere in the process. However, sustaining this green trend requires a reduction of methane slip throughout the complete supply chain. Therefore, Kosan Crisplant has a zero-emission policy, resulting in no flaring and pollution in the production and distribution phases. The reduced emissions of harmful pollutants such as CO, NO X (nitrogen oxides), SO X (sulphur oxides) and particulate matter means that switching to LNG/LBG will have a positive impact on both human and planetary health. LNG is a flammable gas, but in fact, it is quite difficult to ignite. An exact mixture of air and gas is needed in order for the gas to burn, and even when it does burn, it burns more like a candle or put in other words, an explosion cannot occur. Unlike diesel and heavy fuel oil, LNG does not require extensive clean-up in case of a spill. LNG simply evaporates and dissipates into the atmosphere, leaving no residue whatsoever in water or on soil to the benefit of surrounding ecosystems and water systems. However, LNG must be treated respectfully and therefore the construction and operation of the facility is subject to the strict requirements of safety and environmental impact. An independent environmental study will be conducted to ensure safety and security for the surrounding environment. 6 7
