From the beginning, the oceans have been a major factor in the evolution of mankind. We depend on the oceans for transport, fisheries, and exploration to harness subsea natural resources. Today's maritime structures and vessels are strong, well designed and technically advanced, but the challenges and demands associated with their use have increased in complexity. The need for leading expertise in the maritime industry is as strong as ever.. 1
Moss Maritime provides leading technology, expertise and experience when designing and engineering gas carriers, offshore platforms and special purpose offshore vessels. Moss Maritime s engineering staff is experienced in technical disciplines, such as gas/cryogenics, naval, mechanical, electrical/instrumentational, structural engineering, Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE), and project development. Moss Maritime is an international pioneer in the development of gas carriers for LNG, LPG and ethylene. Since its introduction in 1971, the Moss spherical containment system has been the world s leading seaborne transportation system for LNG. The new generation of large LNG carriers with slow-speed diesel propulsion are fitted with the patented Moss RSTM reliquefaction system. This unique in-house LNG expertise is used to develop new concepts for floating receiving terminals and production units for LNG. 4 2
A Leader in Maritime Technology Some of the largest and most advanced semi-submersible drilling platforms ever made are designed and built by Moss Maritime. A wide variety of drill ships, shuttle tankers, jack-up platforms and anchor-handling/tug/supply vessels for offshore oil and gas production are also part of the company s portfolio. Moss Maritime has a unique reference list: LNG Carriers LPG and Chemical Carriers Platforms for Drilling and Production Well Service and Supply Vessels Diving Support Vessels Ice Breakers Core Drilling Vessels Conversion/Upgrading Projects Single Projects (design/engineering/evaluations and size assessments) for the Offshore and Shipping Industry Moss Maritime s wide product spectrum includes such designs as: Octabuoy Deep Draft Production and Drilling Unit Moss Catamaran Semi-submersibles (CS-series) Moss Well Service Platforms Bingo, Yatzy, Vision and ME 4500 Semi-Submersible Platforms Moss Class of Anchor Handling/Tug/Supply Vessels Moss Type Spherical LNG Carriers Moss LPG/Ethylene and Chemical Carriers Moss Reliquefaction System for LNG Carriers Moss Floating LNG Production and Receiving Terminals Sea Launch SeaBase TM 3
Moss TM LNG Carriers LNG Carriers The Moss TM LNG carrier with spherical LNG tanks represents the safest and most reliable LNG containment system on the market. The spherical tank offers simplicity in fabrication and operation, and after more than 30 years of operation, the Moss LNG tank design remains unmatched in terms of reliability and unplanned off-hire. The simplicity of the spherical shape of the Moss LNG tank enables high accuracy for predicted stresses and fatigue life of all parts of the tank structure, thereby eliminating the need for a full secondary barrier. Partial loading at any tank filling level is inherent in the design, making both existing and new Moss LNG carriers superior to carriers with other containment designs, especially when handling spot trades and offshore loading/unloading. Moss LNG tanks are independent from the ship s hull and are not to the hull strength nor affected by possible damage to the ship s hull. Propulsion includes: slow-speed diesel engines, steam turbines, duel-fuel diesel electric or combined-cycle turbines, with single or twin screws. Tank volumes 147, ,000 m spherical tanks per LNG carrier Service speed: knots Propulsion: Slow-speed diesel engines, steam turbines, duel-fuel diesel electric or combined-cycle gas turbines, with single or twin screw Moss Reliquefaction System The Moss Reliquefaction System is based on a closed nitrogen expansion cycle that extracts heat from the boil-off gas: All cargo preserved during voyage Partial liquefaction and separation of non-condensable, which means reduced power demand Reduced liquefaction power consumption due to reduced BOR (0.085% %/day) 4
Safety and Reliability Moss Containment System Moss LNG Tanks are the industry reference for reliable LNG transportation. They feature: Robust tank structure Unbeaten record over 5000 tank-years with no failures or leaks Design not susceptible to sloshing damage: any filling level is confined in the tanks Design suitable for worldwide harsh environment operations Moss LNG carriers are designed with a considerable average distance between hull skin and cargo tanks. Extensive model tests have verified that a 40m diameter Moss cargo tank may suffer a 4m indent before rupturing LNG Tank Sloshing The shape of Moss LNG tanks is designed to minimize sloshing forces and avoid filling restrictions. Moss LNG tanks are fit for: Large carriers Partial cargoes Floating terminals Offshore shuttling Spot trades Increased Flexibility and Economies Moss LNG tanks ensure: No restrictions on partial filling Maintenance-free cargo tank and insulation system Easy and quick stripping Pressure discharge in case of pump failure Easy visual inspection of the insulation and the inner hull at any time 5
Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRU) The Moss FSRU was developed based on experience gained from over 30 years of operating Moss LNG carriers, and includes LNG loading, storage and regasification on a single floating unit. The FSRU consists of a steel monohull with Moss LNG tanks, regasification plant, turret and gas export facilities, and all necessary safety and crew facilities. Significant cost reduction potential compared to on-shore facilities Minimum shore facilities, no costly jetty LNG storage capacities of up to 450,000 m 3 Side-by-side or tandem loading from LNG shuttle tankers New building or based on conversion of existing Moss LNG carriers Turret or spread-moored anchor lines arrangement Easy to relocate can cover several short-term gas delivery contracts Short project lead time and short completion time Wide range of gas send-out capacities, using various methods for regasification Construction/conversion and completion at experienced shipyards Modular design concept, using the proven Moss spherical LNG containment system Floating Units 6
Floating Units Moss Floating LNG Liquefaction Units (FLNG) The Moss FLNG offers production, storage and off-loading of LNG on a single floating facility. With respect to costs and project scheduling, the FLNG has significant advantages over gravity-based and onshore liquefaction facilities. The concept is particularly well-suited to LNG production in areas with little or no onshore infrastructure. It features: Significant cost reduction potential compared to on-shore facilities For exploration of green gas and associated gas fields Side-by-side or tandem offloading to LNG shuttle tankers LNG storage capacities from 150, ,000m 3 LPG and condensate storage/offloading as required LNG production capacities up to 7 MMTPA Available for both harsh and benign environments Turret or spread-moored anchor line arrangement Easy to relocate can cover marginal field developments Compact process layout Construction and completion at experienced shipyards Modular design concept using the proven Moss spherical LNG containment system LNG offloading using the Moss-Framo LNG tandem offloading system 7
Offshore Platforms Platforms Moss Maritime has been involved in the design, construction and commissioning of a majority of the most advanced semi-submersible platforms and special purpose vessels built for the oil and gas industry. We provide the following services: Complete design and construction support New-building, rebuilding, refurbishment and surveillance Sea Launch The floating mobile launch platform and command ship The Sea Launch partnership between Boeing of the USA, Energia of Russia, Yuzhnoye of Ukraine and Kvaerner of Norway, employs the technology and experience of Moss Maritime to penetrate new frontiers in using dynamically positioned offshore platforms. Mobile Offshore Bases These offshore structures are designed to: Respond to the global strategic need for forward presence for a wide range of mission profiles Provide repositionable basing options for large combined force stand-off operations and resupply Permit a rapid relocation of force components to international waters when and where required 8
Offshore Platforms Drilling Platforms The design of the MOSS CS50 MkII is an evolution of the proven MOSS CS40/50 platform designs. A large deck provides generous storage areas, dedicated and protected areas for assembly and handling BOP and X-Mas trees, plus direct access to running position in the moon pool. The design is further suited for installation of a re-injection plant and/or a cuttings handling plant for shipment to shore and subsequent recycling. The MOSS CS50 MkII is designed to accommodate a range of drilling platform requirements, such as: Dual-activity drilling operations A double derrick makes it possible to perform simultaneous operations, thus improving drilling efficiency by 30% compared to that of a conventional single derrick operation. Dynamic Positioning (DP) DP, as the only means of position-keeping, reduces the down-time when moving between locations and improves the efficiency when compared to an anchor-moored unit. The MOSS CS50 MkII is specified with the highest DP class (IMO Class III) for maximum redundancy and safety. Designed for harsh environment operation Equipment and systems are specified and designed to operate in low ambient temperatures, such as those found during operation in Arctic waters. Special consideration has been made to provide crews with safe and protected working areas under severe weather conditions. Stringent safety objectives Zero harm to people Zero lost-time accidents Zero losses Zero discharge 9
